Parkersburg South (26-9) has won 11 consecutive games, none bigger than Wednesday's 3A Region 1 title game win over Morgantown (22-9). The win earned the Patriots the region championship and one of four 3A births in the state tournament to be contested May 30 - June 1 at Power Park in Charleston.
The game was full of epic twists that was capped by a walk-off RBI single by Clay Walters in the 8th inning for the win. What transpired leading up to the eventual game winner was riveting. The two teams went toe-to-toe early with both clubs scoring three runs in the 2nd inning. South added a single run in the 4th and carried a 4-3 lead into the top of the 7th inning looking for three outs to seal the win.
Morgantown appeared to snatch victory from defeat by tallying four runs in the 7th only to watch South return the favor with three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning, setting the stage for Walters' heroics in the 8th.
Albie Eddy (2-for-4, 2B, 2 runs), Dakota Carr (2-for-3, RBI), and Tyler Shorter (2-for-3, 2B) led the Mohigans' offense with multiple-hit games. Wes Mitcham (2-for-3, RBI) and Jacob Wilcox (2-for-3, RBI) had two hits each for the Patriots.
