PBR Welcomes Kansas to Our State-Specific Coverage

With great pleasure, we bring to you Prep Baseball Report Kansas. Our mission in Kansas mirrors that of all our other state-specific coverage: to provide the most comprehensive in-state information, to promote high school baseball and, ultimately help Kansas prep athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level. Our goal is to be the No. 1 resource for high school baseball in Kansas.

Although it will take some time to achieve the status of our other states, we are certain we have the right person to thoroughly, accurately and honestly cover Kansas:

Sean McCann.

With 18 years coaching experience at various levels of college baseball, including nine years as recruiting coordinator at Big 12 Conference schools Missouri and Kansas State, McCann brings a wealth of experience to his new position with Prep Baseball Report. He has an impressive record as a talent-evaluator and has developed a network of contacts that include some of the top head coaches and recruiting coordinators in all of college baseball.

Most recently, McCann served as pitching coach/recruiting coordinator at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, from 2003-11, working under head coach Brad Hill. During his first six seasons at K-State, the program improved its position in the Big 12 Conference standings every year, culminating in the Wildcats' first ever NCAA Regional selection in 2009, beginning a streak of three straight NCAA Regional appearances. During his tenure as recruiting coordinator at K-State, 28 signees went on to earn All-Big 12 Conference accolades at least once during their careers, including 12 First-Team All-Big 12 performers, three Big 12 Player of the Year Award winners, and a Big 12 Pitcher of the Year.

McCann was the the pitching coach/recruiting coordinator at the University of Missouri, under Tim Jamieson during the 2002-03 school year. That spring Missouri appeared in its first NCAA Regional in seven years. As recruiting coordinator, he signed two eventual Team USA members, Hunter Mense and Max Scherzer (2005 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and current Detroit Tigers star).

The year before coaching at Missouri, McCann served as head coach at Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, Louisiana. From 1997-2000, McCann served as pitching coach/recruiting coordinator at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, working alongside current Mississippi State University head coach John Cohen. The Demons captured the Southland Conference Championship in 1998 behind the arms of future MLB pitcher Brian Lawrence and second-round MLB draft pick Brandon Emanuel. As recruiting coordinator, he signed six eventual First-Team All-Southland Conference performers, including two Conference Newcomers of the Year and a Conference Pitcher of the Year. In addition, his recruiting efforts netted back-to-back Southland Conference Championships in 2001 and 2002.

Working under Brad Hill for the first time, McCann served as assistant coach at the University of Central Missouri from 1994-97. UCM appeared in the NCAA Division II College World Series twice during his three seasons there, finishing third and fifth in the nation. During his stay, UCM signed 13 eventual First-Team All-MIAA performers, including four Conference MVP's and a Conference Pitcher of the Year.

McCann spent the 1993-94 season at the University of Mississippi working under former MLB player Don Kessinger as a volunteer coach.

McCann will work tirelessly to bring to you the most comprehensive high school baseball information Kansas has ever seen, to see as many players, and provide coverage to all corners of the state. But he can’t do it alone. Please email him at [email protected] with college commitments, relevant news, and top players in your area.
