PBR Tournaments to open, operate Northeast complex in 2023

By PBR Staff

WESTFIELD, Ind. (Sept. 27, 2022) – Beginning in January, the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex (GLSC) in Cortland, N.Y. will become the new home of PBR Tournaments in the Northeast. Currently, the GLSC – also known as “The Lumber Yard” –  is a two-field, all-turf complex located 35 minutes south of Syracuse in central New York.

Construction is already underway on two additional turf baseball fields, complete with dugouts, batting cages, lights, auxiliary parking, and a centralized building in the middle of the four fields that will house concessions, bathrooms, and offices. The $3.1 million project is set to be completed this December. PBR Tournaments will host high school baseball and softball contests, youth tournaments, high school-aged tournaments and collegiate summer league games at the four-field complex.

"We could not be more excited for the opportunity that lies ahead for us at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex,” said Blake Hibler, President of PBR Tournaments. “From our youth leagues, to showcase events, to our national tournaments, we cannot wait to expand our footprint in the amateur baseball market in the Northeast. We look forward to working with the town of Cortlandville to enhance and grow the games of baseball and softball in the Northeast for many years to come."

For the last two years, PBR Tournaments has hosted baseball tournaments that spanned six weekends during the summer months at GLSC. In addition to GLSC, PBR Tournaments currently operates LakePoint Sports’ eight-field destination located just northwest of Atlanta, the six-field complex at Creekside Baseball Park near Kansas City, and Grand Park Sports’ massive 26-field complex in Indianapolis, in addition to various other sites across the country.

The Town of Cortlandville opened GLSC in 2019, featuring two turf baseball fields on the 100-acre property given to the town. Over the last four years, Prep Baseball Report New York has hosted showcases and its perennial “State Games” event at the complex throughout the spring and summer. In 2022, over 500 athletes competed in the PBR New York State Games at GLSC.

“Teams, players, and their families from all over the Northeast will now have a first class baseball facility in central New York that is operated by the leaders in the industry,” said Dan Cevette, PBR New York President.

Over the last 12 months, the two-field sports complex has seen over 200,000 visitors. Town Supervisor Tom Williams, who has led this project, stated this, regarding the official agreement: “We have a great partnership with PBR Tournaments. They have been easy to work with and have provided first class baseball for all in the Northeast. We look forward to our continued partnership with a fine organization.”

PBR Tournaments intends to host 25 tournaments in 2023, from ages 9U through 18U starting in April of 2023, and continuing through October.

The 2023 tournament schedule will be published in the near future, and will be viewable at gutchesslumberyard.com at launch.
