Cincinnati, Ohio- On a cold, windy night the Turpin Spartans (3-7) defeated the La Salle Lancers (3-5) 4 to 3 in seven innings.
Turpin’s unsigned senior RHP Ryan Flynn went six and one-third spacing out six hits and giving up three runs, only two earned. Junior third baseman Derek Varner pitched the final two-thirds and retired the last two batters on seven pitches while earning his first varsity save.
La Salle’s senior pitcher Ken Ruberg pitched three and one-third innings and took the loss. Ruberg gave up four hits and struck out one before giving way to hunior Jeremy Keith who retired all eleven batters he faced with a deceptive two seam fastball and biting curve.
The offensive stars for Turpin were senior outfielder Conner Zimmerman, who laced a pinch-hit two run double and senior outfielder Hunter Sadlon who followed and drilled a two run double forcing Ruberg from the game.
La Salle’s senior OF Brad Burkhart (Dayton recruit) plated two with a hard single to left field.
