PBR Spotlight Game: Team Mets 18u vs OBJ 18u
SCARBOROUGH – An early Saturday morning brought the Ontario Blue Jays 18’s White squad to the field against the Toronto Mets 18’s in a doubleheader matchup at Dan Lang Field. The first of two games resulted in a 15-1 win for the Blue Jays, while the Mets bounced back to even the day with a 6-2 victory.
In game one, OBJ struck first with a two-run second inning by the means of some small ball. In the next inning, the Blue Jays capitalized on their opportunities by scoring eight runs and batting around their order.
The run production did not stop from that point as they scored in every inning for the remainder of the game. Ryan Rijo hit a three-run homer to right field in the 5th inning, adding three RBIs to go along with his three runs scored. Royce Ando got on base four times, including a triple in the gap and showed good speed swiping two bases. Contributions came from each player in the lineup, as all of the positional starters scored at least one run.
The Mets scored one run in the game, as RJ Freure threw six solid innings with Rashan Moursalien to close the game in the seventh inning.
The Mets responded in the next game, anchored by three quick runs in the first inning scored by the first three hitters in the lineup.
Both teams went ahead to score one run a piece in the 2nd inning, as OBJ kept trying to chip away at the lead scoring again once in the 3rd.
However, the Mets stayed persistent scoring again in the fourth and fifth innings to complete the doubleheader split.
Andrew Raponi tossed a complete game, keeping the Blue Jays hitters off balance with his solid mix of offspeed pitches. The offense was led by Ryohei Suzuki, who scored three runs on three hits, including two solid doubles. Eric Senior reached base three times, scoring once with one RBI.
