PBR Spotlight Game: Mississauga North vs Niagara Falls
Mississauga- Two teams battling it out in Midget Elite League (M.E.L) conference play matched up tonight for a chilly game at Rivergrove Park in Mississauga. The 5th place Mississauga North Tigers took on the 4th place Niagara Falls Falcons.
The Tigers were able to keep off the battling Falcons by taking an 8th inning lead for the 8-5 win.
Despite suffering the loss, Niagara's starting pitcher Joe Scaringi showed a solid outing going 6.1 innings. He used a quick delivery and did a good job of getting gathered over the rubber. He was able to command the zone effectively giving up two walks and striking out three. His off speed was leaving the tigers hitters struggling, as they couldn’t adjust to his 11/5 shape slider. Scaringi’s fastball showed arm-side tail that was working the corners of the plate. He left the game only giving up two earned runs.
Niagara had put Mississauga on their heels in the top of the 8th when a clutch two out single up the middle with a runner on second to tie the game up at five. The Tigers however were able to answer in the bottom half.
A lead off walk for pinch-hitting, Hark Aulckh of the Tigers in the bottom of 8 sparked the late rally. With 2 outs and a Aulckh on first, Niagara’s relievers struggled with some command issues as two passed balls allowed Aulckh to come around to score to take the lead. There was then a hit by pinch, followed by a walk and then a throwing error, which allowed both the runners to score causing the score to fall to 8-5.
