PBR Spotlight Game: Highland vs. Hammond Morton
March 30, 2012
Hammond Morton 3 Highland 2
With over a dozen MLB scouts at the Highland vs. Hammond Morton game Thursday evening, Jordan Minch had the fastball pumping in the first. Sitting steady at 87-89, he elevated his fastball into the 90's, hitting 91mph on several occassions. Highland, however, could not get the bats going for the majority of the game. Morton jumped out on Highland in the 3rd, after a RBI single from Freshman Devonte Robinson. As Minch finished up his evening, pitching 5 innings, giving up 1ER, while striking out 11. Morton's Aurielo Cazares (2013) pitched a complete game, while matching Minch's strike out total at 11.
With the game tied up at one a piece, Minch lead off the top of the 7th with a triple, nearly clearing the right field fence. Nick Christersen later singled Minch home to take the lead 2-1. Alex Freitag took the rubber for Highland in the 6th, going a perfect three up, three down. The 7th would be a different story. Freitag gave up a lead off hit, followed by two walks. With the bases loaded, Freitag came through just once, as he struck out the first hitter with the bags packed. Soon after, he walked in the tying and game winning run.
Suprising player of the day: Devonte Robinson (FR): 1-2 with 2RBI and 2 Stolen Bases.
