Richmond, IN – Richmond jumped on the board early and scored often in their win on Wednesday over visiting Hagerstown. Richmond capitalized off of every mistake Hagerstown made throughout the game. In the first after a pair of walks and a passed ball Senior Jamie Hightower hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the first run of the game.
The second inning is when Richmond opened up the game, putting up seven runs in the frame. With two outs and the bases loaded Hightower came through again, this time singling to center to score two more runs. After an error and two more walks it was Junior Alex Rodriguez’s turn to come up with the big hit. With the bases loaded again Rodriguez drove the ball into the left centerfield for a double that plated three more runs.
Junior Alex Lyons was on the hill for Richmond and he was able to keep Hagerstown off balance for most of the game. His fastball throughout the game sat at 79-81 mph, topping out at 82. His curveball (67 mph) kept the Hagerstown hitters out on their front foot. Lyons picked up the win going four innings, allowing just one run, five hits, and striking out four.
Junior Cole Bartlett was on the mound for Hagerstown and his fastball was consistently at 84-86 mph, but touched 87-89. He threw three innings, allowing nine runs (only two earned), and three strikeouts.
Richmond would add one run in the third, two runs in the fourth, one run in the fifth, and two more runs in the sixth to end the game 14-4.
