PBR Scout Day: OTK Baseball - Pitchers

6-foot, 160 pound righty has a loose arm swing with some quickness working to an over-the-top slot.  Fastball ranged 74-77, but there may be future growth as the arm touched 80 mph from the outfield in a positional drill.  The curveball can be inconsistent, sweeping through the zone with a gradual tilt, or working with 11/5 arc and late action.  Ranging 69-71, there was not a distinct difference in hand speed in the two breakers, mimicking fastball.  Rushed and choppy through the delivery, the shoulders work level and on line.  Arms and legs can create some deception, while there is some effort in the delivery, really emphasizing extension with the head.  Change-up is the third pitch, sitting 72-73, straight with occasional cutting action.  Typically on-line it would miss down.  

In the box, the right handed hitter worked open and balanced, using a weight shift to load.  Bat head stays flat through the load.  Uphill leverage, working off the back leg, sweeping the bat through the zone.  Pull tendency as exit velocity touched 87 off the barrel.  Rana 7.66 sixty.

An over-the-top slot with a quick arm allowed fastballs to sit 73-77 with late run.  Feel for the zone.  Long arm swing, turning the ball over early, with some effort to the release.  Rushed through the delivery at times, shoulders work level and lands on-line.  Front side pulls to 3B side quickly.  Slider swept across the zone, with minimal tilt at 60-63.  Showed an ability to add and subtract on the pitch, leading to tighter spin and later action at times.  Change-up has some run at 66-68.  All three pitches around the zone.  At 5-foot-10, 140 pounds, there is limited projection in the frame, but the arm works with quickness and the ball has action out of the hand.

Ran a 7.25 sixty and touched 75 from the outfield in positional drills.  Exit velocity topped at 79 mph off the barrel.  BAlanced stance, allowing the bat head to work from vertical, with waggle, to a flat position at launch.   Load can be rushed and the swing is set to pull and hook balls.

Some projection still left in the 6-foot, 180 pound righty.  Easy balance and delivery lead to a strong arm swing working to a high-¾ slot.  Strength over quickness in the arm.  Fastball worked 80-82.  Arm strength did test at 84 across the infield during defensive drills.  Fastball has hard, late run, showing an ability to command the zone to his arm side.  Throws two different breaking balls.  Curveball sat 63-66 with gradual 11/5 arc.  Showed feel for the zone.  The slider is new and has a chance to be a weapon at 69-70 with late, hard tilt.  Inconsistent feel for the zone, but should improve as it is thrown more.  Straight change ranged 72-74 with good hand speed and an ability to be in the zone.  Slow tempo delivery works to better than average arm speed with good head stability.  Level and on-line throughout the delivery.

On the infield, showed active feet, that occasionally would work themselves out of rhythm.  Hands could be hard at times with low exchanges.  Right-handed hitter showed some strength with an exit velocity of 81 mph with a level swing, working gap-to-gap.  Good looseness and rhythm, flashed barrel awareness.  Barrel works with a ‘C’ load to a vertical launch position.  Ran a 7.76 sixty.

Lanky 6-foot-2, 160 pounder works with some coil and balance, uncoiling the front side to produce a fastball ranging 75-79 with some hard run.  Erratic, missing up and arm side throughout the bullpen.  Change-up and breaking ball showed better feel for the zone and for repeating his delivery.  Curveball touched 63, rolling gradually through an 11/5 arc with a slow arm.  The change-up worked with good deception from the arm at 66-68, occasionally cutting.  Loose and quick, there is some effort in the body and arm to get to the ¾ slot.  Shoulders close down at balance, swinging open and lacking some extension at finish.  

From the outfield, the ball showed above average carry and some accuracy, touching 76 with ease.  Fluid and clean through the ball, a short arm action worked to a high-¾ slot.  Right handed hitter gets a little heavy on the front side with a long stride from a leg kick.  Exit velocity touched 83, showing some strength when on the barrel.  Ran a 7.78 sixty.

Long arm action, turning the ball over early, to an over-the-top slot with a fastball ranging 70-73.  Showed feel for the zone, commanding arm side at times.  Curveball has gradual 11/5 tilt, sitting 57-60.  Staying arm side for most pitches, the breaker comes from some deception as the arm speed is similar to fastball.  The change-up works with similar arm speed as well, sitting 62-65.  Hand works thin through the release, causing some arm side run.  Rhythmic delivery works tall to balance, with the shoulder staying level.  Lands on line, occasionally falling early to the 1B side.  

Right-handed hitter is aggressive, wanting to sit on the backside and create some uphill leverage.  Pull tendency, looking for extension.  Exit velocity topped at 81 mph.  Arm worked up to 70 mph from the outfield, showing advanced accuracy.  Worked with two hands through the ball.  Long, clean exchanges worked to an over-the-top slot.  Ran a 7.90 sixty.

Thick body with some strength in the lower half on the 5-foot-10, 190 pound frame.  Fastball ranged 65-68 from an over-the-top slot with an average arm swing.  Good balance, some effort as the arm worked to release.  Head clears the line early.  Showed more ease in the body throwing the curveball at 57-59.  Gradual 11/5 arc with similar hand speed.  The breaker uses the same slotting as the fastball creating some deception as it fills up the zone.  Change-up is more erratic, cutting at times, ranging 58-59 with a slow arm speed.

Right handed hitter works tall and balanced, using a short stride to get to extension.  Early timing with the stride.  Lacked some barrel awareness.  Ran a 8.41 sixty.

Aggressive demeanor and athletic temperament on the bump stood out in the 5-foot-8, 135 pounder.  Plenty of time for the young build to mature.  Quick twitch delivery builds tempo, although choppy at times, throughout.  Arm works with quickness through a long arm swing to a high-¾ slot.  Fastball lacked action but played heavy at 78-80, riding through the zone and the glove.  Breaking ball and change are both options in the repertoire.  Curveball ranged 60-63 with gradual downer action.  Hand speed can quicken, but showed feel for location.  The change ranged 64-65 with some run at times.  Arm speed can quicken on change as well.  Projection is high with increased strength to come and an already quick arm.

Right-handed hitter showed a feel for the barrel and aggressive demeanor.  Balanced, uses a leg kick to work to a short stride.  Average batspeed works level, wanting extension, staying gap-to-gap to produce an exity velocity of 74 mph.  Fluid on the infield with good hands and active feet.  Caught, exchanged, and produced accuracy with the baseball.  Good rhythm as the arm touched 73 across the diamond, working with ease.  Ran a 7.63 sixty.

5-foot-9, 145 pound righty sat 68-71 with the fastball.  An over-the-top slot from a long arm action with a slight stab at the bottom.  Elbow works high in the arm swing.  Low leg kick and glove point through the target worked with some uphill leverage in the shoulders.  Curveball sat 60-61 with gradual, downer action, showing feel for the zone.  Change-up ranged 65-67, at times straight and at times cutting with some deception in the hand speed.  Feel for the zone with all three, control over command.

On the infield, played through balls, catching most deep causing low exchanges.  Long arm action worked to a high-¾ slot with some accuracy.  Right handed hitter is balanced using a leg kick to get to a short stride.  Bat head loads to vertical and works flat through the zone.  Some length, working gap-to-gap with an exit velocity of 73 mph.  Ran a 8.34 sixty

Big bodied lefty at 5-foot-9, 215 pounds.  Fastball lived up in the zone at 69-72 from a high-¾ slot.  Some rhythm to a slow tempo delivery with level shoulders.  Repeats the delivery clearing the head from the line early.  Some shoulder restriction through release.  Breaking ball has hard, downer action, with some command after getting it dialed in, sitting 64-66.  Change had cut and sink action depending on the pitch, ranging 66-68.  

Easy feet for the big fellow at 1B, showing fluid rhythm and an ability to catch the ball with ease.  Low exchanges worked quick and clean into a short arm swing and high-¾ slot.  In the box, the left works from a tall stance, loading down, and using a short stride.  Average bat speed.  Uphill leverage in the swing geared to pull as the front side clears.  Exit velocity topped at 78 mph.  Ran a 8.92 sixty.
