PBR Scout Blog - June 2018
Throughout the summer season, Prep Baseball Report will have its staff on the road taking in games from across the state of South Carolina. Below you will find reports on players and teams as the staff at PBR SC works to provide total access to the summer season.
Rock Hill American Legion Post 34
Willie Lumpkin, Rock Hill HS, 2019 (Uncommitted)
Athletically built SS has shown time and again that he can hit. His bat to ball skills have been impressive on multiple occasions. He has a simple approach that allows him to stay inside and behind the baseball to all fields. An increase in power could be in future with further player development. A sure-handed MIF with the ability to play all of the infield positions, speed will be the only question mark moving forward.
Jordan Thurmond, Rock Hill HS, 2020 (Uncommitted)
LHH utility man with the ability to play anywhere on the field. After seeing multiple games he was seen at 2B, in the OF, and behind the plate at C. His natural actions point to IF in his future. Footwork, hands, and arm strength are all skills that are present. Swing lends him to hit balls back up the middle and to RF, evident by several hard hit balls in the alley to right center.
Camden American Legion Post 17
Jake Laffin, Lugoff-Elgin HS, 2019 (Uncommitted)
Athletic corner IF/OF with great barrel awareness and bat path. Showed the ability to hit the ball to all fields and also future power potential with a deep fly ball off the wall. Has advanced understanding of the strike zone. Only question mark will be his defensive position.
Holden Bunch, Camden HS, 2019 (Uncommitted)
Super projectable 6’5” LHP with a solid build. FB 80-83 T 84 from a high ¾ arm slot with late arm side action. CH was 70-71 with fade. Didn’t show breaking ball outside of warm-ups. Did miss arm side for a stretch but nothing to cause significant concern. Tempo and mound presence are both advanced.
York American Legion Post 66
Saben Teague, Westminster Catawba Christian School, 2019 (Uncommitted)
Long slender LHP with a frame that will sustain future growth. FB 80-82 T 83 in the first inning. Showed a side to side CB at 67 and a CH with good arm speed and feel at 71. Periods of control loss in the later innings of his start will be something to keep an eye on moving forward.
Carolina Prospects 15u
Seth Robinson, Cane Bay HS, 2022 (Uncommitted)
Rangy athletic IF from the Carolina Prospects organization. Showed an advanced understanding of the strike zone and ability to drive the baseball with more power than his frame would suggest. Arm strength and accuracy are adequate and stand to improve with future player development.
Warriors 15u
Connor Brinson, Calhoun Academy, 2020 (Uncommitted)
Slender LHP with a frame that supports further growth. In two starts FB was 78-80 T82 showed cutting action that proved to be consistent across two starts. CB was loose at 66-68 but showed plus potential at times from the same arm slot. CH 68-69 as a 3rd pitch. Showed good athletic ability while fielding his position.
Dirtbags SC 16u
Camron Beckham, Airport HS, 2020 (Uncommitted)
Athletic RHP with a short arm action. Two way player who also plays 3B, FB was 79-82 T83 and showed a tight slider with depth at 70-72. Slider was a plus pitch that resulted in multiple swing and miss attempts. Build is solid and strong and mechanics and arm action are not forced lending to increased velocity in the future.
Travis Elliott, Gilbert HS, 2020 (Uncommitted)
Solid MIF with strong lower half build. Has the arm strength to play all three positions in the IF. Has shown a compact swing with good bat path and bat speed. In two games has shown plus power potential with a double and HR (both to LF)

SUMMER HALF-WAY POINT WATCH LIST
-> DUSTIN NOLLER, Northwestern HS (2020,Uncommitted) - having a good summer for SBA Bones National 2020. Has thrown some big innings including a quality start against the 5 Star Vipers during the Black Bear Classic. Is also shredding defenses as the QB for the Trojans during summer 7 on 7.
-> JACK RENWICK, Dorman HS (2020, Uncommitted) - has shown the ability to have a quality approach for the Evoshield Canes so far this summer consistently hitting balls to all fields with advanced bat to ball skills. Has also shown flashes of good speed with multiple stolen bases.
-> MIKEY TEPPER, Ft. Mill HS (2020,Uncommitted) - carving batters up for the On Deck O's 2020 to this point of the summer. Has been up to 88 with a power breaking ball. Arm action is quick and clean, body type lends to even more velocity down the road.
-> CARSON JONES, Ft. Mill HS (2019,Uncommitted) - has been hot for the On Deck O's 2019 club. Finished at UNCC going 6-11 with a 2B and 6 RBI and continued that trend hitting safely in multiple games of the Black Bear Classic, capped by a triple in the LCF gap during quarterfinal play. If he continues to swing it well the stock will continue to rise for the 2019 OF from Fort Mill HS.
