Prep Baseball Report is excited for the return of Player of the Year Awards, presented by Big League Chew, after the 2020 season was cut short and 2021 generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout Nevada. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.
Tyler Whitaker - 2021 | Bishop Gorman
Nevada's #1 ranked 2021 and University of Arizona signee, Tyler Whitaker, saw his complete game come together this spring, leading his team to a South Region Title. His stats speak for themself in an abbreviated 13 game regular season and regional tournament, he posted a .508 batting average in the heart of a potent Gaels lineup, with five homers, ten double and an absurd 32 RBI's. Along with his ability at the plate, he showcased his ability to be a legitimate threat on the base paths with 8 stolen bases. He continued his standout season into the PBR Nevada State Championship where he went .500 over the four games played with a pair of double and homerun. The stats only paint part of the picture for Whitaker season as he was one of the emotional leaders for the group, coming up clutch in critical situations, all while playing a flawless right field throughout the event. His length and projectable frame mixed with speed (PBR Verified 6.50 Laser Time) and bounce he plays with will transfer well to the next level whether it be at Arizona or at the professional level and depending on how he physically matures, with his present quickness, he could potentially make the transition from right field to centerfield. Tyler Whitaker's all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on Bishop Gorman, has earned him the 2021 Prep Baseball Report Nevada Player of the Year honors.
