PBR Metro Tournament: Championship

The PBR Metro Tournament wrapped up over the week end with the semi-finals being played Friday night and the Championship being played Saturday at 6:00 PM.
The tournament featured 9 teams from 4 different classifications, and some of the top prospects the state has to offer. We were very happy with the first year event and have plans to expand the tournament in 2018.
Semi-Finals
Cabot 13 vs Russellville 8
Cabot defeated Russellville 13-8 in a high scoring affair which featured a combination of 8 pitchers. Teams traded runs in the first.
Russellville took advantage of free passes and defensive mistakes by Russellville to score 4 in the 2nd, then returned the favor in the bottom of the 2nd to leave the game tied 5-5 after 2 innings of play.
Both teams traded runs in the 3rd leaving the game tied 6-6. Both teams held in the 4th.
In the top of the 5th Russellville scored 2 runs to take an 8-6 lead, in the bottom of the 5th Cabot answered with 3 of their own. Cabot tacked on 4 more runs in the 6th to put the game firmly out of reach, at 13-8.
2020 OF Houston King and 2017 MIF Blake McCutchen both had multi-hit games. McCutchen went 2 for four with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored while King was 3 for 4 with a run scored.
On the mound 2018 RHP Caleb Wilson picked up the win throwing 2 innings allowing just 1 earned run while striking out 2. 2017 RHP Michael Shepard impressed in his 1 2/3 innings to close out the game as he struck out 3.
2020 MIF Cole Dawson impressed with 2 hits including a 2 out 2 RBI double for Russellville.
Searcy 7 vs Maumelle 2
Searcy defeated Maumelle 7-2 in the second semi-final game.
Searcy took advantage of a big 4th inning scoring 5 runs taking advantage of some walks and errors.
This big inning was enough as the Lions pitching staff had an efficient night. Combining to pitch 7 innings allowing just 3 hits and no earned runs. 2017 RHP Garrett Price pitched 4 innings with 1 strike. He was relieved by 2017 LHP Flave Carpenter which struck out 4 in 2 innings of work, allowing no hits. 2017 Luke Wolfe pitched a solid 7th inning closing out the contest.
2019 INF Brody Ammons lead Maumelle offensively picking up their only hits of the contest going 2 for 3 with 2 singles.
Searcy used a balanced offensive attack as 6 different Lions contributed with a hit, and 7 different players scored a run.
Finals
Cabot 7 vs Searcy 0
Cabot avenged Monday’s loss to Searcy with a 7-0 win the Finals of the inaugural PBR Tournament. The Panthers received a dominant performance by their veteran pitching staff to secure the win.
2017 Michael Sheppard pitched 5 2/3 innings for Cabot to pick up the victory, his second of the week. During his 5 2/3 innings he allowed just 2 hits while striking out 7 with 0 walks. He was relieved by 2017 RHP Logan Gilbertson who pitched a perfect 1 1/3 innings.
2017 MIF Blake McCutchen continued his big week with another multi-hit game. McCutchen was 2 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI. Cabot also received multi-hit days from 2020 OF Clayton Gray, 2018 CIF Dillion Thomas, and 2018 CIF Connor Linton.
2017 Will Wilkins and 2017 Luke Wolfe each picked up hits for Searcy to complete their production.
Cabot finished the week 4-1 winning 4 straight after dropping their opening round game to Searcy 7-4.
Searcy finished the week 4-1 with their lone loss coming in the finals.
