PBR Jr. Future Games: Alabama Day 2 Recap

EMERSON, GA - The 9th Annual PBR Jr. Future Games played its second day of pool play games with each team playing a single game across both age groups. After taking part in a pro-style workout on Tuesday, teams were eager to compete against other states while representing their own state today. With numerous college coaches watching on as teams competed throughout the day at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA, numerous players from Team Alabama showed out en route to a solid day across both age groups.

This event runs in conjunction with the PBR Future Games. The Future Games features the top uncommitted players in the Class of 2024 and 2025 from across the Prep Baseball Report’s 40+ state coverage area. It is one of the most highly recruited events of the summer and attracts more than 300 college coaches from across the country each year.

Today, we take a look back with a brief recap of each game, including players who stood out on all three teams representing the state of Alabama.

 

Team Alabama 13U

Alabama 13U faced off against Illinois this afternoon in what turned out to be a very high-scoring affair that ended in a 13-13 tie. Alabama fell down into a big hole early on in the game, but fought back with a big 5th inning to take a 13-12 lead. Illinois would answer back with a run of their own in the bottom half, but stranded the winning run on 3rd base thanks to a stellar defensive play on the run from OF Braden Martin (Lee Scott Academy) that ended the game in the tie.

It was a steady offensive attack from top to bottom from Alabama with eight players collecting at least a hit in the contest. OF/LHP Manning Amorde (UMS-Wright) reached base in all three plate appearances going 1-for-1 with a triple, two R’s, an RBI & two walks. SS Connor Greb (Spain Park) was the only player to record multiple RBI’s, as he went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly early in the game. SS/RHP Gavin Lang (Collinsville) also recorded an extra base hit with a triple into the pull-side gap, finishing 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Also recording RBI’s for Team Alabama was INF Beckett Brown (Parkview, GA), OF Miles Norman (GA), OF Braden Martin (Lee Scott Academy) and RHP/1B Andrew Bennett (Mobile Christian).

Team Alabama 13U currently sits at 1-0-1 after the tie with Florida still left to play tomorrow at 10:15 AM EST on Field 13 in their final pool play game to determine their seeding.

Team Alabama 14U (1)

After dropping their first pool play game yesterday to a solid Louisiana squad. Alabama (1) got back in the winners column with a 9-5 over Colorado using situational offense and solid pitching from multiple players. RHP/SS Rhett Persell (Lincoln County, TN) delivered two quality innings to start the contest, going 2 IP, H, R, BB & 2 K’s and working up to 79 mph with his fastball. With the game still in the balance late, RHP/SS Bryce Rivers (Mobile Christian) closed the game going 2.2 IP, 4 H, R 0 BB & 4 K’s. He worked up to 82 mph with his fastball in his outing and drove in a pair of runs offensively.

At the plate, Alabama (1) was paced by a few hitters and manufactured nine runs throughout the contest that proved to be enough in the end. 1B/LHP Ian Weaver (Lincoln County, TN) was one of those players who contributed, going 1-for-2 with an RBI. INF Alex Gaston (Mobile Christian), C Colton Tate (Lincoln County, TN) and OF Cruise Baker (Muscle Shoals) all pitched in adding a hit and an RBI each. INF Brody Lambert (Faith Academy) and C Aiden Gaston (Mobile Christian) both came around to score in the contest, as both walked twice each.

Team Alabama 14U (1) will be back in action tomorrow vs. Illinois at 9:30 PM EST on Field 15 in their final pool play game to determine seeding for bracket play.

Team Alabama 14U (2)

Alabama (2) came out swinging from the jump facing off against Massachusetts in the nightcap, erupting for six runs in the 1st en route to a 13-4 victory to improve to 2-0 on the week. They were lead mostly by INF Kayden Helton (Mobile Christian) and 1B Cooper Pennington (Shelby County), who both posted multi-hit performances and each drove in a pair of runs. OF Matt Hopkinson (Home School) also drove in a pair of runs while walking twice, as well.

It wasn't just a few players contributing to Alabama's offense, as six hitters in the lineup recorded hits. Some of those players who pitched in various offensive contributions are OF Aiden Craven (Chelsea), OF Jackson Burgess (North Sand Mountain) and SS Tate Johnston (St. Paul's Episcopal). Burgess went 1-for-1 and also scored three times, Johnston went 1-for-2 with a single and an RBI, and Craven provided a single to LF and proceeded to come around to score.

On the bump, RHP/SS Braydon Wright (Home School) and RHP/C Hudson Robbins (Saraland) each worked out of jams in their inning and posted scoreless frames. RHP/INF Davis Ruston (Shelby County) came on to close out the final two innings giving up just one run while striking out two hitters. Team Alabama (2) now sits in the drivers seat in their pool play sitting at 2-0 with Mid-Atlantic (2) up next tomorrow night at 7:15 PM EST on Field 15 in their final pool play game to determine seeding for bracket play.
