PBR IA Preseason All-State: Preview

The 3rd annual PBR IA Preseason All-State event will be this Sunday, March 5, at Sportsplex West in Waukee, IA. The Preseason All-State event has developed into one of the premier preseason events for players in Iowa and the surrounding region to showcase themselves for college coaches and MLB scouts.
Today we take a brief look at past participants from the event, record holders in each statistical category, and players who look to make an impact at this year's event.
Over 80 players who have attended this event have ultimately committed to college baseball programs to continue their education and playing career. Past participants include John Swanda (Nebraska), Brendan Dougherty (Bradley), Daniel Powers (Kansas State), Joel Thompson- Luke Patzner- Clayton Nettleton- Brayden Frazier- Ben Norman- & Connor Lindaman (Iowa), Javin Drake (Western Illinois) and many other top performers.
Strong statistical numbers have been posted over the last 2 years at the PBR IA Preseason All-State event and below we highlight the event record holder in each category:

PITCHING VELOCITY
88 mph- John Swanda, RHP/SS, D.M. Roosevelt, 2017 (2016 Event)
88 mph- Evan Reifert, RHP, Wilton, 2017 (2016 Event)
88 mph- Luke Patzner, RHP, Urbandale, 2017 (2016 Event)
The 2017 event is loaded with a strong group of players. 24 of the top 50 players in the PBR IA 2018 Rankings will be in attendance at this event. 2018 Jayden Kies (Iowa City Regina) will look to defend his title as fastest player at event; after running a blistering 6.68 last year as a sophomore. 2018 Gus Radel, Sioux Falls Roosevelt (SD), has been as high as 91 mph over the winter and will look to verify that number on Sunday. Nic McCay (Carlisle) and Tony Barreca (North Scott), who participated with Radel at the 2016 PBR Future Games for Team IA-MN-NE, have made steady improvements since August and look to highlight their development.
