PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
PENDERGAST: I chose Kirkwood because of a good coaching staff along with a strong reputation for sending guys on to power five programs. This mixed with a great campus and great facilities helped me make my decision.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
PENDERGAST: I was also considering DMACC, Parkland, Johnson County, and Iowa Central.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
PENDERGAST: Coach Rima first saw me at some of my High school games this past summer. After I took my visit, I had consistent conversations with the coach’s over the phone and at fall tournaments.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
PENDERGAST: It was a relief to an extent when I made my decision. It was nice to know where I’ll be the next two years, but I also know that I’m still far from over with the recruiting process sense I will be choosing a four year school to go to after Kirkwood.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
PENDERGAST: My relationship with Coach Rima was the biggest factor in my decision. Other than that when I stepped on campus it felt like home and the best fit for me.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
PENDERGAST: My mom has helped me the most at this point. She has always supported me with showcases, travel tournaments, and visits. Not to mention all of the money she has put into baseball and my development.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
PENDERGAST: My expectations for the recruiting process was to simply find a place that felt like home, somewhere with a good track record for development, and somewhere that I could make an immediate impact, which I think I’ll have all of these things at Kirkwood.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
PENDERGAST: My freshmen year I will likely play 2nd base and hopefully be an everyday guy in the lineup come spring time. The coach’s would like to see many of my showcase numbers make big jumps in my time there to increase my likelihood of playing power 5 baseball someday.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
PENDERGAST: Currently my most memorable moment is hitting a home run in the first at bat of last year’s season, which started the best year I have ever had.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
PENDERGAST: I competed against several all Americans on the Scorpions down in Florida this fall and I would have to say that’s the best talent I have been up against thus far.
