PBR Future Games: Alabama Day 3 Recap
July 29, 2022
EMERSON, GA - The PBR Future Games continued on Friday with all teams competing against other various states after participating in a pro-style workout yesterday. In front of hundreds of college recruiters looking for prospects at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA, Team Alabama took their second game of the week over Team Canada by score of 5-1 using a steady offensive performance and quality pitching on the mound. Pitcher-only's threw two innings each in a seven-inning contest and showcased some intriguing stuff in the process. Two-way players will throw an inning each on their scheduled day to pitch.
Team Alabama will be back in action tomorrow against Team Mississippi at 2:00 PM EST on Field 9 looking to go 3-0 on the week for the second-straight year. Before we shift our focus to tomorrow, let's take a look back at some of the standouts from today's contest for Team Alabama.
Jackson Hunter RHP / OF / Hazel Green , AL / 2024Hunter certainly created some buzz this spring pitching as the ace for Hazel Green HS, and continued to trend upward with a strong outing for Team Alabama. Standing 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, Hunter has a pitcher's build with three above average offerings coming out of a H 3/4 arm slot. After a bit of a rocky start in the 1st, Hunter was lights out in the 2nd inning, recording a pair of punch outs in the process. The right-hander opened up more 86-88 mph in the 1st, and ramped it up sitting 88-90 mph during the back-half of his outing and only got stronger as it went on. He found his slider in the low-70's that flashed two-plane break, and turned over some quality changeups to left-handers, as well. Clean delivery and mechanics with good pace.

Ty McGraw 1B / 3B / Gardendale, AL / 2024With a physical 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame, McGraw looks the part in the box snd fits the mold of a future middle-of-the-order bat at the next level. After taking quality swings from the left side in the first two days of the event, the rising junior on-base in all three plate appearances in today's contest. McGraw posted one of the more impressive at-bats for Team Alabama today recording a single down the left field line. After just taking some aggressive swings in plus counts, the left-hander shortened up and simplified his setup to find a barrel on a fastball. He also has continued to show the ability to work counts with a selective approach and a bat that doesn't have much swing-and-miss.

Nicholas McCord SS / RHP / Oak Mountain , AL / 2024Playing as a two-way prospect this week for Team Alabama, McCord made an impact on both sides of the ball today. Hitting from the right side of the plate, the middle infielder pitched in a hard-hit single through the right side in one at-bat and eventually came around to score later. Later in the contest, the rising junior hopped on the mound and worked up to 88 mph with his fastball and showed solid feel for his secondaries. He's continued to show the ability to play at a high level on both sides, all while playing crisp defensive up the middle for Team Alabama. Athletic 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame will be a good one to follow into tomorrow. |
Carson Joyner RHP / 3B / Bayside Academy, AL / 2024Joyner twirled two really efficient innings on the mound for Team Alabama while only needing just 36 pitches in his outing. Listed at a strong 5-foot-11, 200-pounds with proportional strength throughout, the right-hander pumped 85-87 mph to both sides of the plate throughout his outing while inducing weak contact. Arguably his most effective pitch, however, was his low-to-mid-70's breaking ball that showed late 11-5 shape getting swings-and-misses both in the zone when landed for strikes and for chase in deep counts. He showed solid command for both offerings after previously being up to 90 mph this year. He finished going 2.0 IP, H, 0 R, BB & 2 K's.
