The inaugural PBR Fall Championships are underway at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. More than two dozen travel teams from across the Midwest are competing in two divisions with more than 100 scouts and college recruiters in attendance. There will be notebooks each day covering the 18U and 17U/16U divisions.
The first day of the underclass division was highlighted by some premier arms, including 2019 RHP Will Frisch (Stillwater HS, MN) and 2019 RHP Parker Maddox (Columbus North HS, IN), an Indiana recruit. Frisch dominated the early portion of his outing, showcasing the same filthy arsenal that vaulted him inside the top 20 of the 2019 Overall Rankings. However, it was Maddox who stole the show on the day. The 6-foot, 180-pounder got the nod for the Indiana Bulls against Top Tier and went five scoreless innings. The ball jumped out of his hand from a 3/4 slot as he worked his fastball in and out at 86-87 mph with late life. He consistently threw first-pitch strikes and applied the pressure on hitters. He then put them away with a sharp, tight slider at 70-72, which he controlled in and out of the zone. His ability to attack the zone set the tone for the game as the Bulls walked away with the victory to close out the first day of the event.
Frisch didn’t disappoint early on, as he struck out five of the first six batters he faced against the Giants Underclass Scout Team. He was especially dominant in the first inning when he struck out the side using his whole arsenal. His fastball peaked at 91, sitting 89-90 with late arm-side life in the first two innings. More impressively, he consistently commanded his 77-78 changeup that was a plus offering at times. Frisch came back to Earth later in his start and the hard-nosed Giants pulled away with a victory.
