PBR FL 2018 ProCase- Pitchers

Sunday, May 20, Prep Baseball Report hosted its third annual Florida ProCase at IMG Academy in Bradenton. Since launching in 2016, the invite-only showcase has quickly become one of the most prestigious events for area juniors giving them a platform to perform in front of the scouting community as they head into their final offseason before their senior year. The previous two ProCase events have heralded some of the state’s top prep prospects in the following year’s draft.
Sam McMillan and Freddy Tarnok are two of the five players from the inaugural showcase selected in the 2017 draft, and Mason Denaburg, Andres Antonini, Robby Martin, and Luca Tresh are all examples of last year’s ProCase-ers preparing themselves for next month’s draft. Denaburg, namely, is candidate to be taken in the first round and is presently ranked No. 9 on our PBR Draft Board, that includes both college and high school draft-eligible prospects.
This year may have herald one of the deepest pools of talent in the events short, but very successful, history. Over the course of the next week we will break down every single player as follows: Outfielder, Infielders, Catchers, Two-Way Players, Pitchers. We will then announce the top uncommitted and top overall performers. Today, we take a look at the pitchers.

Paul Labriola LHP / 1B / Cardinal Mooney, FL / 2019Rankings StateRank: 91 / POS: 12
Clemson recruit. The 6-foot-5, 185 pound left hander has made some big stride and may have been the biggest standout on the mound. The long limbs have started to work more in sync and it translated to high number of strikes. Struck out the side in his first inning, worked mostly 87-88 mph with arm side run at the bottom of the zone. Curveball was much improved, ranging from 67-68 mph, it has some hard, late depth and consistently threw the pitch for strikes. Overall, the mechanics have continue to improve and the stuff is trending upward, with much more to come. Will be interesting to see how many jumps he makes this summer.

Carson Palmquist LHP / 1B / Riverdale, FL / 2019At 6-foot-4, 175 pounds he is lanky, long and very projectable. He throws from a tough 3/4 slot. There is some slight crossfire, which may add to the deception, but the fastball, while sitting mostly 86-88 generated nine swing and misses in two innings. It had late, riding life and was rarely squared up. Showed an above average changeup at time at 79-80 mph and a sweeping slider at 73-74 mph. As he learns to stay taller on his backside and gains strength, the velo will make jumps and has a very high ceiling.

Harrison Dorsett RHP / 1B / Niceville, FL / 2019Ole Miss recruit, he stands at a projectable 6-foot-4, 195 pounds, with a live body, live arm and room to fill out. Working from a 3/4 slot, he has a deep takeaway in the back and is athletic and aggressive at footstrike. Fastball jumps out of the hand at 88-91 with late life and riding action. There is a lot of hand speed and has a whippy arm. Also threw a two-seamer at 87-88 moh with hard boring action. Showed a few average to above average potential sliders at 77-80 mph. Was most comfortable with changeup, which he threw three strait pitches at one point, working 82-85 mph with arm side sink. Overall, it's a projectable frame and arm action and would expect to make big jumps throughout the summer.

Brandon Gielow LHP / OF / Lemon Bay, FL / 2019Rankings StateRank: 75 / POS: 11
Tennessee recruit. He has a long limbed 6-foot-2, 155 pounds. There is some present athleticism and the arm works clean from 3/4 slot. Throws slightly cross fire and is loose in the back, with the fastball ranging from 82-84 mph with more coming with strength. Showed a slurvy curveball at 69-70 mph and a changeup at 74 mph. There is athleticism and a loose arm and more velocity to come.

Dawson Place RHP / 1B / Sunlake, FL / 2019Rankings StateRank: 133 / POS: 35
Uncommitted, stands at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Worked mostly 84-85 mph with the fastball and has some length and rotational action in the delivery. When he got extended the fastball showed some late life. Showed a slider at 72-73 mph and a cutter that generated weak contact and showed potential at 80-82 mph.

Dante Visconti RHP / Bartram Trail, FL / 2019Rankings StateRank: 71 / POS: 21
Florida Atlantic recruit. Standing at a thick 6-foot-4, 200 pounds he has a lot of action going on in the delivery. While there is some deception, it can create some timing issues. When he is on time and gets down the mound, the fastball has some late arm side action and sink at 86-88 mph. Showed a sweeping slider at 74-77 mph. There is feel and athleticism as he threw a lot of strikes with the fastball and upside as he learns to get everything working in sync.
