PBR Evaluation & Measurables Showcase Analysis: Class of 2018

The PBR Evaluation & Measurables Showcase took place Saturday at the Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim, PA. A total of 45 prospects from across two states showcased their talents with prospects representing the classes of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. Today we conclude our analysis of all prospects in attendance by reviewing those prospects in the Class of 2018.

top prospects
Tim Beimel, OF, St. Mary's Area HS
5-foot-10, 165-pound two-way prospect did not step on the mound on this date, but will in two weeks time at the Preseason All-State Showcase. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. He showcased a short, repeatable swing with a solid feel for the barrel leading to an 82 mph bat exit velocity. Beimel ran a 7.15 60-yard dash and displayed athletic actions defensively with 84 mph arm strength from the outfield.
Jarod Bingaman, SS, Upper Dauphin Area HS
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a heel raise stride. Stays inside the baseball well and flashed advanced bat speed for a player his size (89 mph). Barrelled the baseball routinely during a very solid round of batting practice and displayed the ability to drive the baseball to both gaps. Ran a 7.19 60-yard dash and flashed 81 mph arm strength across the diamond from his shortstop position. Showcased active feet, the ability to play through the baseball and makes the slow roller play look routine.
Cole Kiddy, C, Robert C. Byrd HS (WV)
6-foot, 200-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing with a heel raise stride. Generate significant barrel whip with a strong hip turn and a short path to the baseball. Showcased present power to both gaps with a bat exit velocity of 89 mph. Ran a 7.38 60-yard dash and displayed athletic actions defensively. Flashed pop times of 2.06-2.16 on throws out of the crouch and presented a soft wall when blocking.

Cole Barker, RHP/1B, Lewis County HS (WV)
6-foot-2, 190-pound primary pitcher sat 74-76 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Deliberate delivery with good balance has room for additional velocity with improved tempo and greater intent. Curveball resembled a cutter at 70-72 while his 74 mph changeup has some sinking action. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and strides closed. Showcased an 85 mph bat exit velocity and barreled the baseball routinely during his round of batting practice. Showed capable actions around the bag defensively at first base with accurate 73 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Thomas Borum, C, Holy Redeemer HS
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a flat barrel path through the zone while squaring the baseball consistently with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 7.47 60-yard dash and showcased pop times of 2.44-2.48 on throws of 71 mph out of the crouch. Footwork slows his transition in spite of solid arm strength. Additional work on lower half will speed up release time leading to lowered pop times.
Dan Crossan, 2B/3B, Archbishop Carroll HS
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitter hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed the ability to routinely barrel the baseball in spite of some arm bar action with a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Ran a 7.63 60-yard dash and showcased 73 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively. Projects best as second baseman with quick release and current arm strength.
Joseph Fisher, 1B/LHP, Palmyra Area HS
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing with a heel raise stride. Arm bar action leads to barrel drag with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 7.75 60-yard dash and showcased 68 mph arm strength across the diamond from first base. Sat 67-68 from a 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Also displayed a 62 mph curveball with 1/7 rotation and a 66 mph changeup with some cut action.
Anthony Funk, OF/RHP, Elizabethtown Area HS
5-foot-10, 180-pound two-way prospect. Right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a short stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a solid fee for the barrel during an above average round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Ran an event best 6.98 60-yard dash and showcased 84 mph arm strength from the outfield while playing through the baseball. The righty sat 77-81 off the mound from a high 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm and strong lower half. 69 mph curveball displayed slider rotation while he also showed a 69 mph changeup with good arm speed.
Kevin Gamber, SS/RHP, Elizabethtown Area HS
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a flat barrel path with limited lower half action that results in a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 7.83 60-yard dash and showcased a developing defensive skill set at shortstop with 71 mph arm strength across the diamond. Righty sat 76-77 on the mound from a 3/4 arm slot. Also displayed a 60 mph curveball with much slower arm speed and a developing 67 mph changeup.
Josh Kerns, RHP/SS, Spring Mills HS (WV)
6-foot, 145-pound two-way prospect. Primary pitcher sat 79-81 from a 3/4 arm slot. Showcased a quick, loose arm action with above average balance throughout. Fastball displayed arm side run. 69 mph curveball showed tight, late break and 72 mph changeup was thrown at fastball arm speed with similar fade action. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Arm bar leads to length in the swing with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 7.45 60-yard dash and showcased 79 mph arm strength across the diamond from his shortstop position.
Brodey Neveker, 3B/RHP, New Oxford HS
5-foot-9, 170-pound two-way prospect. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a leg lift stride. Displayed a solid feel for the barrel when he got his foot down on time with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 7.93 60-yard dash and showcased a capable glove hand with 75 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively. Righty sat 71-75 on the mound from a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil to his delivery. Also displayed a 65 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a 70 mph changeup.
Matthew Ortiz, 2B/OF, Stroudsburg HS
5-foot-4, 130-pound right-handed hitter start from a narrow stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a line drive approach and a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 7.76 60-yard dash and showcased sound second base mechanics defensively with accurate 73 mph arm strength across the diamond. Also displayed the ability to play through the baseball with 75 mph arm strength from the outfield.
Matt Pinone, 1B/OF, Pope John Paul II
6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a shorter path to the baseball and a more upright stance than when we saw him last with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 7.15 60-yard dash and showcased active feet with a solid glove hand around the bag at first base. Also displayed 71 mph arm strength from the outfield from a 3/4 arm slot.
