PBR Atlantic: Canada's Sweet 16 Uncommitted Spotlights - Part Two
We would like to thank all who participated in PBR’s Atlantic Canada Showcase Tour. This was a great first opportunity for our Atlantic Canada prospects to be identified, and to take their first step in investing in themselves and their futures. We knew the talent was there, and you delivered. In the coming weeks, we will be adding to the profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video. In the meantime, we are excited to share with you our Atlantic Canada’s Sweet 16 Uncommitted Spotlights.

Shane Cowan 2B / C / Lockview, NS / 2021REPORT: This left-handed hitting, uncommitted senior possesses gap to gap to power. At 5-foot-11, 180-pounds he noticeably continues to add size and strength to his game. Cowan possesses quiet but quick hands at the plate to the tune of an 85 mph exit velocity. His experience is mostly on the right side of the diamond, however he has started to dabble behind the dish with a pop-time of 2.18-2.26. You can trust the hands at both first and second base. He is a proven winner, as he was a member of the Nova Scotia team that captured a National Championship in 2019. |
Connor Ellsworth RHP / 3B / Westisle Composite, PE / 2021REPORT: Ellsworth is an uncommitted 2021 with a compact frame that packs a lot of fast twist movements and energy. At 5-foot-10, and 155-pounds, this right handed pitcher and middle infielder with raw strength that would see numbers continue to jump with a structured off-season program. His fastball velocity sat at 75-76 mph, with more in the tank, along with a plus curveball at 64-65 mph that was sharp. In the infield he has good range to the glove side and backhand with a strong throwing velocity of 79 mph to first base. Ellsworth produced an exit velocity of 83 that was mostly generated from his upper half, and we predict numbers will grow as he learns to generate more from his lower half.

Jacob Greene SS / RHP / Mathieu Martin, NB / 2021REPORT: Greene displays athleticism all over the diamond. On the infield he attacks baseballs with soft hands and closes with good distance and direction with the feet. The arm works while effectively moving laterally to both the left and right with a 78 mph velocity across the diamond. At the plate the swing is quiet with very few moving pieces. Visible rhythm to his load and the ball jumps off the bat. Contact is to pull side, so a focus on staying in the big part of the diamond will make this bat more dangerous over time. Showed plus secondary pitches with great depth on the curveball (65 mph), and late sink on the changeup (69 mph). Fastball currently sitting at 78 mph, and with an emphasis on adding mass we would anticipate an uptick in velocity over the winter.
|
Logan Harvey C / OF / King's-Edgehill, NS / 2021REPORT: A bit of a late bloomer, Harvey continues to impress across the board. He is a 6-foot-2 left-handed swinging catcher with a good frame and opportunity to add mass. He ran an athletic 7.36 during his sixty, and looked the part behind the plate. He received well with quick feet, and locked down a consistent pop-range of 2.13-2.15 to go along with 72 mph out of the crouch. Barrelled up baseball’s during BP and consistently drives into a firm front side. The exit velocity was 83, with an opportunity for a few minor adjustments to further engage his lower half we predict that will jump.

Nolan O'Brien RHP / OF / Parkview, NS / 2021REPORT: Athleticism oozes from this right handed pitcher / outfielder. On the bump, the arm is fast twitch and clean. O’Brien fully maximizes his frame, and will benefit over the winter from a dedicated strengthening program to add bulk. The fastball was 77 mph, and has flashed consistently in the low 80’s during the season. Good feel and command for the curveball at 64-66, mph and should continue to work on adding a change-up. Good instincts and routes in the outfield highlighted by a great first step that led to an 83 outfield velocity. Ran one of the better 60 times at 7.21. Good bat control which produces hard line drive contact that typically plays up the middle of the diamond. |
Camden Rendell OF / 1B / King's-Edgehill, NS / 2021REPORT: A strong 6-foot-1,195-pound senior who filled up the stat sheet all day long, and whose skill set plays on the mound, in the field and most notably at the plate. Rendell started the day by flashing a 7.25 sixty run time, which was preceded by a fluid and free 88 mph outfield velocity on a line. He possessed a good approach and footwork from the outfield, and looked comfortable at first on the infield. Prototypical projectable frame, with a live raw arm that is free and easy at 83 mph with a sharp curveball ranging from 68-70 mph. Produces loud contact at the plate (88 mph exit velocity) who’s left handed swing plays as a middle of the order type player. He was an instrumental piece of the 2019 National Championship team from Nova Scotia. Compete factor is off the charts whose projections will continue to soar.
|
Camilo Riesgo C / 2B / King's-Edgehill, NS / 2021REPORT: A true defensive minded catcher who excels technically behind the plate. Riesgo turned heads with quick footwork gaining great distance and direction from the crouch. He consistently posted pop-times ranging between 1.96-2.00 and impressed with his 75 mph velocity down to second base. He possesses a high baseball IQ and has excelled being the guy to lead strong pitching staffs and shutting down running games. He has sneaky power as evidenced by his 80 mph exit velocity, and consistent contact should come with a focus over the winter on cleaning up balance and bat path at the plate. He was a member of the Nova Scotia team that captured a National Championship in 2019. This is a definitely a name to know if you want an anchor to lead any pitching staff. |
Tyler Taylor LHP / 1B / Charlottetown Rural, PE / 2021REPORT: A 2021 uncommitted left handed pitcher and first basemen who produces opposite field line drive contact from the left side of the plate. The hands are quiet and play quick. At 6-foot-4, 175-pounds as he continues to add strength exit velocity of 80 will soar with his frame and mechanics. On the bump, he is very composed and displayed a really good feel for his arsenal which allowed him to attack hitters with all of his pitches regardless of the count. The frame is extremely projectable, and he throws a heavy fastball that currently sits at 76 mph that gets on you in a hurry. He has a sweeping curveball with good depth of break at 63-65 mph and a change-up with late life arm side sink at 68-70 mph. |
