PA Underclass Games Analysis: White Team

The PA Underclass Games were held at Consol Energy Park in Washington, PA on September 22 and 23. Today we take a look at the prospects who participated as members of the White Team.
Tanner Cook, OF, Class of 2014, Huntingdon HS
Cook continues to improve in all facets of the game. The 5-foot-8, 150-pound right handed hitter showcased a strong arm at 80mph from the outfield, a solid 60-yard dash time of 7.18 and a bat exit speed of 75mph. He had hits in both games on the weekend and impressed with his range and ability to go get the baseball from his outfield position.
Johnny Smith, C, Class of 2015, Red Lion HS
Smith showcased well with a 7.22 60-yard dash, a bat exit speed of 79mph and pop times of 2.12-2.20 on throws of 75mph from the crouch. The 5-11, 155-pound sophomore has a solid approach at the plate and is sound defensive mechanics. Smith got his team off to a solid start in their first game with a first inning double.
Ty Reginelli, 2B/SS, Class of 2015, Mars HS
Reginelli showcased sound defensive mechanics and a solid swing. The highlight of the left handed hitter's weekend was a 2-for-4 performance in game play on Tuesday. The 5-foot-8, 135-middle infielder projects as a top of the order hitter with time and continued growth.
Joel Hake, SS/RHP, Class of 2015, Youngtown Ursiline HS (OH)
Hake showcased one of the top infield arms at the event at 77mph. He displayed good range and soft hands in the middle infield. Hake threw three solid innings in game play topping at 80mph. He had a solid day at the plate on Sunday going 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly and two RBI.
Dustin Lander, LHP/OF, Class of 2015, South Side HS
Lander showcased well in all facets of the game. The lefty showed a 79mph fastball and a 65mph curveball from the mound. The curveball has tight 1/6 break and with work could become a plus pitch. Lander had a solid 79mph bat exit speed and had hits in both games played by the White Team. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound left handed hitter shows good range and fluid movements in the outfield as well.
Connor Macaulay, Catcher, Class of 2015, Council Rock South HS
Macaulay is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound catcher with solid blocking and receiving skills. He showcased a bat exit speed of 81mph and a solid approach to hitting. The sophomore went 4-for-7 in game play with a double. Macaulay also had an impressive round of live batting practice, continually squaring the baseball and driving it to all fields.
Joey Luciana IV, OF/1B, Class of 2014, St. Joseph HS
Luciana only participated in the game portion of the event. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound right handed hitter had a two out single in the 2nd inning of the White Team's Sunday game that was part of a three run inning.
Zach Newmyer, 3B/RHP, Class of 2014, Red Land HS
Newmyer had a solid showcase workout with a bat exit speed of 81mph and one of the top infield arms at 77mph. The 6-foot, 175-pound junior worked four innings on the mound during game play. He showcased a 78mph fastball and a 69mph changeup, both of which had good arm side run. He also displayed a 69mph curveball. Defensively Newmyer showed soft hands and good range to go along with a good arm.
Steve Helmeci, RHP/3B, Class of 2014, Mt. Lebanon HS
Helmeci threw four innings on the weekend yielding just one run while striking out four. He showcased an 80mph fasball, a 71mph changeup and a 66mph curveball that has tight 11/5 rotation. Helmeci had an outstanding weekend at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and five RBI. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound right handed hitter showed an 82mph bat exit speed and was named the White Team's MVP for his play.
Collin Fantaskey, OF/SS, Class of 2014, Warren HS
Fantaskey had a strong showing during the showcase portion of the weekend. His 83mph arm from the outfield was the second best at the event. He was also among the event's best with a 7.24 60-yard dash and a bat exit speed of 84mph. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound right handed hitter was a member of Team Pennsylvania at the Under Armour Midwest Future Games in August.
Adam Seibert, RHP/1B, Class of 2014, Episcopal Academy
Seibert, the No. 12 ranked player in the Class of 2014, threw four innings giving up two unearned runs topping out at 86mph. The 6-foot-6, 185-pound junior also showcased a 75mph curveball and a 76mph changeup. Seibert has excellent mechanics and a frame that suggests a significant increase in velocity is a real possibility.
