Oregon 2023 Rankings Update
August 31, 2021
As we conclude the summer season and get ready for the Fall, we’re taking a more in-depth look at the 2023 class with a new rankings update.
This updated list expands to 50 prospects for the incoming junior class. With a majority of this group on the cusp of seeing varsity action for the first time, we expect to have more updates and changes to this list throughout the year.
Since its inception in 2005, the Prep Baseball Report has evolved into one of the country’s biggest and most respected independent scouting services, with a singular focus of providing comprehensive year-round coverage in every state we are in. The mission of the Prep Baseball Report is to scout and promote amateur baseball - high school, junior college and college - and, ultimately, help athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level.
Rankings are based on evaluations by scouting director Dan Jurik as well as additional PBR scouts across the country who have seen prospects from the state at various events.
With a majority of the prospects on the list uncommitted, the goal is for this information to help assist college coaches as they look to finalize their recruiting classes and add additional pieces to their roster.

Top 10 Preview
‘23 LHP Paul Wilson (Lakeridge) is not only the best player in Oregon right now, he’s making a strong case that he’s in the conversation as one of the top players in the country. Expect to see Wilson make a huge jump in our updated national rankings after what he’s shown in the last 6 months. The Oregon State commit stands at 6’4, 190 lbs and commands a low 90s FB and has shown 2 variations of his breaking ball as well as a developing CH. He is the total package as a pitching prospect and still has major potential to tap into.

Lots of swing/miss on 92-94 fastball & snapped off a tight 74 CB w/ plus-potential.

Right behind Wilson is another power arm with high upside in ‘23 RHP Noble Meyer (Jesuit). A former Future Games standout, Meyer committed to Oregon shortly after his breakout performance at LakePoint in the summer of 2020. Long, lanky and loose, his FB has consistently crept up into the 88-90 range and he pairs it with a hard, tight SL.

Keeping the Top 3 intact from our previous update, ‘23 RHP Drew Talavs (West Linn) gives Oregon an impressive trio headline arms. The Oregon State commit is physically built at 6’3 and about 180 lbs. Giving him the size and durability to potentially stick as a starter long-term. Expect a big ‘22 spring on the mound from the hard throwing righty.
New to the state for this upcoming year, ‘23 C Zachary Justice (Summit) comes in as our #1 position player on the list after relocating from California. An advanced defender behind the dish with exceptional catch and throw skills. Justice can also do damage at the plate with impressive in-game power and consistent ability to hit the ball hard. Oregon commit.

‘23 RHP Buddy Brands (Tigard) did a lot to raise his stock this summer. Culminating with a big performance down at the ‘21 PBR Future Games that helped him secure a commitment to Oregon. Commands his FB in the 85-88 range and has the pitchability to use his SL/CH combo to his advantage whenever he needs it.
‘23 SS Ryan Cooney (Jesuit) showed this spring that he’s one of the best athletes in the state on the diamond. Strong, athletically built with crisp actions. Cooney handles SS with plenty of poise and composure. Offensively the athleticism translates to a quick, easy swing and noticeable barrel control. Also has the chance to be an impact arm on the bump with a mid 80s FB and hard SL. Oregon commit
‘23 SS Maddox Molony (Thurston) is another middle of the diamond athlete who can lead a defense and also get big outs on the mound. After impressing back in June of ‘20 with his length, projection and tools, Molony has continued to fill out and get stronger. Expect him to fill the stat sheet all season in ‘22 and be one of the most productive players in the state. Oregon commit.
A newcomer to the Top 10, ‘23 RHP Easton Corey (Pendleton) is going to be an exciting prospect to follow. Listed at 6’5, 210, Corey has tremendous size on the mound and moves well for a big bodied athlete. He gets his momentum behind the baseball and creates tough downhill angle with his offerings. Highlighted by a heavy, upper 80’s FB. The top remaining uncommitted prospect in the state for this ‘23 class.
‘23 INF Levi Jones (Jesuit) will be a formidable left-handed bat for what should be a potent Jesuit offense again in 2022. The Oregon State commit has always shown advanced power for his age and that should only continue as he matures even more and adds mass to his build.
‘23 C Leo Reeves (South Eugene) might have one of the best overall prospect profiles in the Top 10. As a 6’3 switch-hitting catcher, he offers an exciting blend of present tools with the chance to be an even bigger offensive threat in the near future. Tough to find his combination of size & leverage with the ability to hit from both sides of the plate. Oregon commit.
