Ontario Spotlight Game: London Badgers 18U vs Sarnia Braves
LONDON – On a very humid and warm May evening the 1-3 London Badgers 18U club took on the Sarnia Braves senior team in some out-of-PBLO action.
Taking on one of the more elite senior teams in the Southern Ontario region, it was curious to see how the Badgers would respond to the challenge. The Wednesday night ballgame showcased two bright, unsigned seniors, as well as a couple exciting underclass prospects.
One of those unsigned seniors, right-hander Zach Banks pitched a flawless three innings, striking out two, while only allowing one hit. The hard-throwing righty showed great composure on the mound, as well as a very impressive changeup, while displaying some swing-and-miss stuff.
The big damage was done in the middle innings, as the bats of the Sarnia Braves senior team woke up, cashing in two runs in the fifth inning, three more in the sixth, and punctuated the evening with a two-run shot in the seventh.
The Badgers tried to mount a comeback late in the game as unsigned outfielder Tyler D’Alessandro hit a leadoff booming opposite-field triple to the left-centre wall. He would come in to score, but the Badgers would eventually fall to the Braves by a score of 7-2.
