Ontario Insider: T12 Outlook - Ontario Black

With T12 starting up on the 14th, we take a look at the Ontario Black team, which consists of 20 players, 19 from Ontario.

Of the 19 Ontario players, three of them are committed, with Team Canada members Noah Naylor (Texas A&M) and Eric Cerantola (Mississippi State) having already committed, while third baseman Leo Markotic committed this summer to Jefferson College in Missouri.

Always one of the more competitive teams, and last year Ontario Black was the first Ontario team (including the Futures) to capture the T12 championship. Many of these players were on that team, and look to be poised to make a run again in 2017.

Uncommitted - But For How Long?

Daniel Carinci SS / 2B / Pickering , ON / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:6 POS:1 Daniel Carinci, the top ranked infielder in the 2018 class will be a sparkplug for Ontario as he is very athletic and can do a lot of different things to contribute on both sides of the ball.

Ryan Faragher C / 1B / St. Thomas Aquinas, ON / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:9 POS:2 Catcher Ryan Faragher suffered a freak injury at this event last year, but he is healthy now and looks to be back to his old self, driving the ball out of the park and handling a staff while controlling the running game.

Denzel Clarke OF / Everest Academy, ON / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:2 POS:1 Overall Rank:72 POS:13 Denzel Clarke is a safe bet to be patrolling centre field. Fresh off an impressive performance of the World Championships in Thunder Bay, and maybe the catch of the tournament (See here), Clarke is one of the most coveted uncommitted talents heading into the week. Extremely athletic at 6-foot-3, 187-pounds, Clarke continues to get better, and with the Under Armour Game at Wrigley, Area Codes, and World Championships under his belt already in 2017, Clarke should be primed to take the reins and run with them as a T12 veteran.

Ryan Capuano RHP / 3B / Birchmount Park , ON / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:5 POS:3 Overall Rank:306 POS:123 Ryan Capuano and Zach McQuaid are two right-handers who can run it up to 90 mph. McQuaid has a sharp curveball with depth while Capuano uses both curveball/changeup combo as their off-speed. These two right-handers will definitely open eyes this week and should have a plethora of schools looking to use them to round out their staffs.

Zachery McQuaid RHP / OF / Maxwell Heights , ON / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:11 POS:5 Ryan Capuano and Zach McQuaid are two right-handers who can run it up to 90 mph. McQuaid has a sharp curveball with depth while Capuano uses both curveball/changeup combo as their off-speed. These two right-handers will definitely open eyes this week and should have a plethora of schools looking to use them to round out their staffs.

Don't Sleep On

Ryan Magdic 1B / Blessed Trinity Catholic, ON / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:25 POS:1 T12 looks to be a coming out party for left-handed bat Ryan Magdic. The 6-foot-4, L/L first baseman has a loose, easy swing and uses the whole field with some easy pop. Has really impressed this summer as has that feel you look for in hitters.

Nicholas Jaeggin SS / RHP / Oakville Trafalgar, ON / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:45 POS:8 A teammate of Magdic, Nicholas Jaeggin is a middle infielder who also let’s it fly off the mound as he has been up to 86 mph with a curveball. Gamer type player who may get overlooked at times because of his 5-foot-9 frame. The arm is quick, deceptive and the curveball has late biting action when out front and finished.

Sam Jones RHP / 1B / ON / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:32 POS:12 Sam Jones and Kyle Lev are both lanky right-handers who can work downhill and both sit in the 83-86 mph range with their fastballs. Lev is 6-foot-6 while Jones comes in at 6-foot-7. Both will add weight and strength as they mature and are similar with their secondary stuff, both having the ability to throw it for strikes.

James Mienkowski RHP / OF / St.Michael's, ON / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:36 POS:15 James Mienkowski is going to come at hitters with uptempo delivery and can very easily sit in the upper-80s if his timing is on.

Griffin Hassall RHP / Bill Crothers, ON / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:8 POS:4 Griffin Hassall, one of the top uncommitted arms in the '18 class will provide innings as he has a three pitch mix that he can pound the zone with. Hassall had a big performance last year on championship Sunday so look for him to make a big impression when it matters.

T12 Weekly Outlook

Stocked with talent, like every team this week, Ontario Black has some high end players with four coming from the Canadian Junior National Team. This experience and talent should help carry them through the round robin and look for Ontario Black to make another push for a title this week.
