Ontario Insider: Landon Leach - Player of the Year
The 2017 season yielded many accolades and individual performances across the province of Ontario, but there was one player who we could not overlook ... Landon Leach.
A senior right-hander from Pickering High School and member of club team the Toronto Mets and the Canadian Junior National Team, Leach has gone from being a catcher up until his sophomore season, to an elite talent on the mound in such a short time.
The imposing 6-foot-4, 225-pounder is committed to the University of Texas, and was recently the first Canadian selected in the 2017 MLB draft by the Minnesota Twins as the first pick in the 2nd round, 37th overall.
The stuff that Leach possesses each team he takes the mound, a fastball that has touched up to 96 mph, a hard slider that sits in the low to mid-80s and a changeup that continues to improve, the swing and miss stuff along with the ease he goes about himself on the mound make Leach the 2017 Ontario Player of the Year.
There were a handful of candidates that could of been worthy of this award, but Leach was the consensus pick from the PBR Ontario staff and scouts. Player of the year criteria includes, but is not limited to on-field performance and positive character qualities that represent Ontario.
