Bishop Hartley outfielder Sam Montgomery is finally seeing his hard work pay off.
The speedy 5-foot-9, 145-pound prospect will never be the biggest player on the field, but his instincts at the plate, on the field, and on the base paths separate him from many of his peers.
Montgomery, who ran an impressive 6.58 60-yard dash at the Top Prospect Games in June, shows straight line speed, but he is even more impressive in game play.
Earlier this spring, his skills were recognized as he collected All-District, All-Conference, and All-Metro honors in the Central Ohio area.
Now, the blue collar athlete is down to three schools as he begins his senior year of high school.
"I am deciding between Lake Erie College, Wright State University, and Marietta," he explained.
Montgomery breaks down his future visits and options.
Lake Erie - "I like the relationship I have with coach Basile from Lake Erie and the direction the program is heading. Coach Basile is very relatable and a guy I feel like I can talk to whenever. He even helped me with my golf game."
Wright State - "I love Wright State. The young coaching staff brings life to the program, they have great ties to the MLB, their equipment manager used to be the equipment manager of my favorite team the Pittsburgh Pirates so that's a huge plus. New turf field and beautiful facilities, and a great opportunity for me to get into the lineup as soon as I step foot on campus."
Marietta - "I like Marietta because of their storied success in their conference and nationally. Marietta is a great program every year and I love being a part of nationally. Marietta is a great program every year and I love being a part of appreciate the attention and time he has put into recruiting me."
September will be a busy month for Montgomery as he head to Wright State on the 14th, Lake Erie on the 20th, and Marietta on the 29th.
Heading into his visits, Montgomery has one team on top.
"My leader right now is Wright State. I really love everything about the program and the coaches."
