The PBR Ohio Unsigned Senior Games was held at The Ohio State University. With over 120 players participating, schools from Ohio and surrounding states gathered to evaluate the talent. Already, Marysville RHP Jarod Yoakam committed to the University of Cincinnati,Massillon Jackson LHP Sam Williams committed to Eastern Kentucky, and Troy RHP Zachary Kendall as well as Bishop Ready catcher Hunter Clanin both committed to Bowling Green. Alex Binnie, 3B/RHP, North Canton Hoover HS, 2014
5-foot-11, 185-pounds with strong, athletic frame and wide shoulders. Excellent athlete with plenty of versatility. Worked out at third base, but shows the athleticism to play several positions on the field. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 80 mph with some carry to his throws. Good lateral movement and receives the ball naturally. Excellent reactions. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. Short stride. Shows quickness in his hands. Squared up the baseball with some pull power in his bat. Registered top exit velocity of 84 mph. Ran a 4.6 out of the box. On the mound, he shows arm strength at present. Sat 84-86 with quick arm action out of a high ¾ slot. Also used a developing 70 mph breaking ball with 11/5 action.
Austin Boggs, OF/IF, Lakota West HS, 2014
5-foot-11, 150-pound prospect with average, athletic frame. From the outfield, he uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Tends to throw uphill. Top velocity of 78 mph. Shows some athleticism in his feet. In the field, he uses similar arm action. Reached a top velocity of 75 mph. Projects as a second baseman or third baseman in the infield. At the plate, he starts in a slight crouch. Tends to wrap in his load. Uses a short stride. Good balance. Takes slight uphill path will pull tendencies. Registered top exit velocity of 77 mph. Ran a 4.26 out of the box.
Blake Swanger, RHP, CHCA, 2014
6-foot-4, 190-pound right-handed pitcher with long, lean frame. Throws from high ¾ arm slot with long, loose arm action. Good tempo to his delivery. Fluid actions. Fastball sat at 83-86 mph. With his size and the easiness of his arm action, he figures to add more as he gets stronger. Needs to take advantage of downhill plane as he was up and down in the zone on this occasion. Breaking ball showed the ability to be an out pitch at 69-70 mph, but didn’t consistently stay on top of the pitch.
Chandler Waszak, LHP/OF, University School, 2014
5-foot-11, 155-pound prospect with thin, athletic frame. Shows two-way potential at the next level. On the mound, the lefty throws with quick arm speed through a high ¾ arm slot. Big leg kick to his delivery. Leads with the hip. Fastball showed some cut at 80-84 mph. Demonstrated command of a 68-71 mph breaking ball with gradual 1/7 movement. Also threw a 72 mph changeup with similar action as his fastball. From the outfield, he uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 82 mph with accuracy. Natural actions. At the plate, he starts in a wide stance. Short, compact swing. Used the whole field. Line drive production. Registered top exit velocity of 77 mph. Ran a 4.41 out of the box.
Clay Pittman, C/3B, Defiance Tinora HS, 2014
6-foot, 190-pound prospect with solid, athletic frame. Throws through high ¾ to over the top arm slot. Shows some quickness despite small hitch in his arm action. Pop times between 2.10 to 2.16. Top velocity of 77 from the crouch with accuracy. At the plate, he starts in a crouch from the right side. Uses a short stride. Slight uphill path with some quickness in his swing. Showed power to the gaps. Top exit velocity of 85 mph. Ran a 4.51 out of the box.
Collin Korte, LHP, Toledo St. Johns HS, 2014
6-foot, 185-pound prospect with solid frame. Throws from low ¾ arm slot with long arm action that shows some quickness. Deception to his delivery. Fastball sat at 81-84 mph. Showed good command on both sides of the plate. Difficult match up for left-handed hitters. Used a 66-67 mph breaking ball with gradual 1/7 action down in the zone.
Darwin Bell, OF/SS, Shaker Heights HS, 2014
5-foot-10, 150-pound outfield prospect with small, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ to over the top arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 78 mph. Plays through the baseball. Shows good foot speed. At the plate, he starts from an open stance. Uses a short stride. Partial use of his lower half. Short, level path. Registered top exit velocity of 74 mph. Ran a 4.23.
Eric Schrand, RHP/IF, La Salle HS, 2014
5-foot-10, 175-pound prospect with athletic frame. On the mound, he sat at 80-81 mph through a high ¾ arm slot. Showed short arm action and average arm speed. Regular effort to his delivery. Breaking ball showed 12/6 movement at 65-68 mph and changeup sat at 71 mph. in the infield, he uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Average hands and feet. Top velocity of 75 mph across the diamond. At the plate, he starts in a slightly open stance. Short stride. Will improve with more use of his lower half. Pull tendencies in his swing. Showed some quickness in his hands. Registered a top exit velocity of 84 mph. Ran a 4.63 out of the box.
Griffin McDonald, 3B, Sylvania Southview HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 195-pound prospect with average height and solid frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 70 mph across the diamond. Will improve with better angles to the ball and consistently playing on the toes of his feet. At the plate, he starts from a tall stance. Uses a long stride. Uses short, level path. Registered top exit velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 4.83 out of the box.
Jacob Lerch, OF, Napoleon HS, 2014
5-foot-7, 165-pound outfield prospect with small, strong frame. From the outfield, he throws through a ¾ arm slot with long arm action. Reached a top velocity of 75 mph. Average hands and transfer. At the plate, the left-handed hitter starts in a tall stance. Uses a smooth load with a short stride. Takes level path with pull tendencies in his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 71 mph. Ran a 4.48 out of the box.
Jake Miller, OF, Massillon Jackson HS, 2014
5-foot-11, 185-pound prospect with strong, physical frame w/muscular lower half. Projects as an outfielder. Showed long arm action through a ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 83 mph with some carry. Plays through the ball and shows good athleticism. Likely a corner guy at the next level. Also worked out in the infield. Reached a top velocity of 76 mph across the infield. Tends to wind up his transfer. More of a third base type. At the plate, the talented right-handed hitter accumulated several hits on the day. In the process, he showed the ability to both hit for power as well as use the whole field. Uses a compact swing. Quick into the zone with slight uphill path. Overall fluid rhythm with little wasted movement. Registered a top exit velocity of 89 mph. Ran a 4.42 out of the box.
Jason Beaumont, RHP, Tallmadge HS, 2014
6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect with tall, solid frame. Uses a tall and fall type delivery. Throws with short arm action and average arm speed through a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball showed slight run at 81-83 mph. More velocity to come with improved use of his lower half. Relies on a breaking ball that shows 11/5 movement with some depth at 72 mph.
Jason Burkett, RHP/IF, Maumee HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 155-pound prospect with long, lanky frame. On the mound, he sat at 80-83 mph with average arm speed through a ¾ slot. Shows some effort to his delivery. Breaking ball sat at 73-76 mph with gradual 11/5 action. Tendency to slow down his arm speed. Also showed a developing 70-73 mph changeup. In the field, he shows long arm action through a ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 78 mph across the diamond. Shows some athleticism in his feet and ability to cover ground. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a toe tap in his stride. Shows some quickness in his hands. Level path to the ball with pull tendencies. Registered a top exit velocity of 81 mph. Ran a 4.5 out of the box.
Joey Jackson, OF, North Canton Hoover HS, 2014
6-foot, 160-pound outfield prospect with athletic frame. Showed good tools in the outfield. Uses short arm action through high ¾ slot. Reached top velocity of 82 mph with accuracy. Athletic type player that is aggressive to the ball. At the plate, the left-handed hitter starts in a balanced stance. Uses a smooth load, but has a tendency bar in his load, which can cause some issues in the bat path. Short stride. Squared the ball up. Overall fluid rhythm to his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 72 mph.
Jon Laird, RHP, St. Edward HS, 2014
6-foot-4, 210-pound right-handed pitcher with long, lean frame. Spent most of the summer playing in Florida. Shows long arm action and average arm speed through a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat at 83-85 mph and dipped down from the stretch. Breaking ball showed spin at 64-69 mph. Also used a 66-67 mph knuckle ball and a 73 mph changeup.
Josh Armbruster, RHP/1B, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, 2014
6-foot-3, 215-pound prospect that projects best as a pitcher at the next level. Throws through high ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat at 83-85 mph with straight action. Also used a 71-74 mph breaking ball. At the plate, he hits in an athletic stance from the right side. Bars his arm in his load. Slight uphill path. Quick hands with some pop in his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 87 mph. Ran a 5.02 out of the box. In the field, moves well around the bag. Quick transfer. Top velocity of 83 mph across the diamond.
Kevin Jones, RHP, Maplewood HS, 2014
6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed pitcher. Throws with short arm action and average arm speed through over the top arm slot. Regular effort. Fastball comes down hill at 73-76 mph. Used a gradual 12/6 breaking ball at 62 mph. Shows a developing changeup at 67 mph. Needs to maintain arm speed with the pitch.
Kyle Mottice, IF, Massillon Jackson HS, 2014
6-foot, 175-pound infield prospect with athletic frame. Showed a top velocity of 82 mph across the diamond. Quick exchange and short arm action. Glovework is good, but still room for improvement. Shows good athleticism in his feet. At the plate, the left-handed hitter starts with a slightly open stance. Uses a long stride. Good balance. Shows some quickness in his hands. Pull tendencies in his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 82 mph off the tee. Ran a 4.25 out of the box.
Luke Bowman, C, Harrison HS, 2014
5-foot-9, 180-pound catcher with solid frame and strong lower half. Compact actions behind the plate. Short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 74 mph. Accuracy to his throws. Pop times between 2.07 to 2.22. At the plate, he shows balance in his swing. Doesn’t stride. Rotational type hitter with slight uphill path to the ball. Good bat speed in the zone. Registered top exit velocity of 85 mph. Ran a 4.3 out of the box.
Noah Skladan, LHP, Amherst Steele HS, 2014
6-foot-2, 142-pound southpaw with lanky frame and long legs. Throws with short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Has some deception in his delivery. Fastball had natural cut at 80-82 mph. Breaking ball sat at 61-64 mph with good 1/7 action. Filled up the strike in game play. Players struggled to consistently square him up.
Nolan Rodman, OF, Findlay HS, 2014
5-foot-10, 160-pound outfield prospect with average, athletic frame. Also catches, but didn’t at this event. Uses long arm action through over the top slot. Reached top velocity of 74 mph with accuracy. At the plate, he starts in a slightly open stance. Uses a short stride. Choppy type rhythm to his swing. Line drive production. Registered top exit velocity of 84 mph. Ran a 4.45 out of the box.
Pat Birrer, OF, Moeller HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 185-pound outfielder with strong, athletic build. Uses long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Throws uphill. Reached top velocity of 79 mph. Shows some length to his transfer. At the plate, the left-handed hitter starts with a big, open stance. Manages to square up his front side in his load. Uses a short stride. Quick hands through the zone with uphill path to the ball. Pull tendencies with some power in his swing. Registered a top exit velocity of 89 mph. Ran a 4.25 out of the box.
Perry DellaValle, RHP, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, 2014
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Throws through ¾ arm slot with long arm action. Has some funk to his delivery. Fastball started 82-84 in game play, but eventually sat 84-87 and touched 89 as he got loose. Showed a good breaking ball with 2 plane action at 69-71 mph along with a 70-74 mph changeup. Established himself as one of the top unsigned arms in Ohio.
Quillan Austria, IF, St. Ignatius HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 160-pound prospect with lean, athletic frame. Didn’t participate in defensive evaluations on this occasion. Offensively, he hits from a crouch. Shows good use of his lower half. Quick hands through the zone. Registered top exit velocity of 85 mph. Line drive production. Ran a 4.31 out of the box from the right side.
Richard Nolde, 1B/RHP, Archbishop Alter, 2014
5-foot-10, 200-pound prospect with solid frame. At first base, he shows average footwork. Receives the ball well. Uses short arm action with top velocity of 71 mph across the infield. At the plate, he starts in an open stance. Uses a short stride. Takes slight uphill path with pull tendencies. Registered a top exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 4.85 out of the box. On the mound, he shows average arm speed through a high ¾ slot. Fastball was straight at 75-76 mph. Used a 12/6 breaking ball with gradual movement at 65 mph and a 71 mph changeup.
Ricky Silvestri, 1B/3B, CHCA, 2014
6-foot, 180-pound prospect. His best tool is his bat. Swings from the left side with good power. Starts in an open stance. Uses a big leg kick, which can cause some timing issues. Good use of his lower half. Quick hands with uphill path to the ball. Pull tendencies with homerun power at present. Overall fluid rhythm. May need to simplify setup and load in order to maintain consistency at the next level. Registered top exit velocity of 82. Ran a 4.95 out of the box. Likely best suited for third base at the next level. Needs to improve fielding the ball out in front. Shows good lateral movement and reactions at both spots.
Ryan Gusbar, LHP, Massillon Jackson HS, 2014
5-foot-11, 180-pound southpaw. Uses slight inward turn in his delivery. Throws through ¾ arm slot with short arm action and average arm speed. Regular effort to his delivery. Fastball sat 82-84 mph with slight cutting action. Used a 67-69 mph breaking ball with 1/7 movement down in the zone and a changeup that fluctuated between 70-75 mph.
Sam Williams, LHP, Massillon Jackson HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 165-pound southpaw committed to Eastern Kentucky shortly after the event. Throws with quick arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Quick tempo on the mound. Challenged hitters. Fastball shows good natural cutting action at 84 mph. Dropped down into the low 80’s from the stretch. Good command of a late breaking 73-75 mph breaking ball. Also showed a good 75-76 mph changeup thrown near fastball arm speed with some sink to it.
Tony Wydra, IF, Miamisburg HS, 2014
5-foot-6, 140-pound prospect with small, thin frame. Projects as a second baseman. Uses short arm action. Shows some softness in his hands. Quick release. Top velocity of 71 mph across the diamond. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in an athletic stance. Takes slight uphill path to the ball. Simple, compact swing. Contact type hitter with pull tendencies. Registered a top exit velocity of 66 mph. Ran a 4.63 out of the box.
Wes Rickenberg, RHP, Napoleon HS, 2014
6-foot-2, 160-pound righty with tall, athletic frame. Throws through ¾ arm slot with some quickness. Fastball sat at 84-85 mph and touched up to 86 mph. Good natural cut to the pitch. Breaking ball shows the ability to be an effective out pitch. Throws it at 72-74 mph with late 10/4 break. Sometimes, he gets on the side of it too much, which creates some flatness to the pitch.
Westen Judd, RHP, Fairfield HS, 2014
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Throws through ¾ arm slot with long arm action and average arm speed. Fastball showed some arm side run at 75-77. Relied on a 63-64 mph breaking ball with gradual movement in the zone.
Will Haueter, C, North Canton Hoover HS, 2014
6-foot-2, 200-pound catching prospect with big, physical frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Compact actions. Pop times between 2.10 to 2.14 out of the crouch with accuracy. Top velocity of 76 mph. Will only get better as transfer shortens up. At the plate, he starts in a balanced stance from the right side. Short stride. Takes uphill path to the ball. Definite pull power in his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 90 mph. Ran a 4.64 out of the box.
