The PBR Ohio Unsigned Senior Games was held at The Ohio State University. With over 120 players participating, schools from Ohio and surrounding states gathered to evaluate the talent. Already, Marysville RHP Jarod Yoakam committed to the University of Cincinnati and Massillon Jackson LHP Sam Williams committed to Eastern Kentucky. Adam Krey, OF/3B, New Albany HS, 2014
6-foot-2, 165-pound prospect with long, thin frame. Likely a corner outfield type. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Throws uphill. Top velocity of 83 mph. Shows average footwork in the field. At the plate, he starts in a tall, open stance. Uses short stride. Takes level path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 4.6 out of the box.
Alex Thomas, LHP/OF, Kings HS, 2014
5-foot-10, 160-pound prospect with average, athletic frame. From the outfield, he uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 74 mph. Average speed to his transfer. At the plate, the left-handed hitter shows opposite field production in his swing. Takes short stride with slight uphill path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 4.34 out of the box. On the mound, he throws through a high ¾ slot. Tall and fall type delivery. Fastball sat 73-74 mph with a little cut. Breaking ball showed some bite at 69 mph and changeup showed similar movement to fastball at 70 mph.
Austin Middlemus, IF, Lakewood HS, 2014
5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect with average, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 75 mph. Athletic actions with some softness in his hands. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a slightly open stance. Tends to wrap in his loads. Shows some quickness in his hands. Squared up the baseball. Fluid rhythm to his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 4.7 out of the box.
Ben Gunn, 2B, Sycamore HS, 2014
5-foot-6, 155-pound infield prospect with small, athletic frame. Projects as a second baseman. Uses short arm action through high ¾ slot. Reached top velocity of 63 mph. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Partial use of his lower half. Short, level path. Contact type hitter. Reached top exit velocity of 73 mph. Ran a 4.88 out of the box.
Corbin Dennis, RHP/1B, Upper Arlington HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect with solid frame. Projects as a pitcher at the next level. Throws from high ¾ arm slot with some effort to his delivery. Fastball sat at 81-83 mph from higher slot. Also drops down to low ¾ and sits in the high 70’s. Breaking ball showed late 11/5 action at 67-69 mph and changeup showed some run at 77 mph. In the field, he uses long arm action through low ¾ to ¾ arm slot. Comes off the bag well. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Tends to bar in his load. Long path to the ball. Still shows some bat speed. Registered top exit velocity of 86 mph off the tee. Line drive type production. Ran a 4.59 out of the box.
Dakoda Brown, LHP, Toledo Christian HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed pitcher with tall, athletic build. Showed good progress since we saw him in June. Throws with some quickness in his arm from a high ¾ arm slot. Maintains balance and direction through his delivery. Threw down at a consistent 84 mph. Touched up to 85 with natural cut. Showed command of both off-speed pitches. Curveball sat at 74 with 1/7 break. Changeup was 75-78 mph with some run. Filled up the strike zone and use good pace in game play.
Dan Kirchner, OF/MIF, Olentangy Liberty HS, 2014
5-foot-10, 165-pound athletic prospect with small, athletic frame. Projects as an outfielder. Uses short arm action through high ¾ to over the top arm slot. Reached top velocity of 87 mph with some carry to his throws. Needs to shorten transfer and exchange. In the infield, projects as a second base type. Throws through high arm slot. Tends to field the ball deep. At the plate, he hits from the right side. Athletic stance with a bit of a crouch. Toe tap in his swing. Shows some quickness in his hands. Uphill path to the ball. Line drive type swing with some pop. Shows good carry off the bat. Registered top exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran 4.44 out of the box.
Derek Varner, IF, Turpin HS, 2014
6-foot, 182-pound infield prospect with athletic frame. Likely projects as a third baseman or offensive second baseman at the next level. Uses short arm action through ¾ to high ¾ arm slot. Shows athleticism in his feet and throws well from different angles. Reached top velocity of 82 mph. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts from an open stance. Uses a leg kick and maximizes use of his lower half. Shows quickness in his hands. Registered top exit velocity of 85 mph. Takes uphill path to the ball with pull power in his swing. Ran a 4.68 out of the box.
Craig Prince, RHP, Licking Valley HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 215-pound righty with solid frame. Throws with short arm action through high ¾ slot. Shows some quickness in his arm. On this occasion, he tended to be up in the zone with his fastball. Showed an 82-84 mph fastball with occasional sink. Relied on a 70 mph breaking ball with late 12/6 movement down in the zone.
Greg Suber, RHP/1B, Delaware Hayes HS, 2014
6-foot-2, 205-pound two-way prospect with tall, solid frame. On the mound, he throws through high ¾ arm slot with average arm speed. Fills up the zone with strikes. Fastball was straight at 77-79 mph while breaking ball showed 11/5 action at 66 mph. At first base, he moves around the bag well. Uses a quick transfer. Reached a top velocity of 82 mph on his throws. At the plate, he is a line drive type hitter. Takes level path to the ball. Doesn’t show much loft. Will improve with more use of his strong lower half. Ran a 5.03 out of the box.
Gus Graham, RHP, Gallia Academy HS, 2014
6-foot, 190-pound prospect with thick build. Made substantial progress since last June. Throws through high ¾ slot with short, quick arm action. Slight inward turn to his delivery. Shows some effort to his delivery. Filled up the zone and dominated hitters with an 88-89 mph fastball with slight run. Used a 72-74 mph breaking ball with late 11/5 action. Doubled up on the pitch at one point for a strikeout. Also showed a developing 80 mph changeup thrown near fastball arm speed.
Hayden Shenefield, 2B/SS, Worthington Kilbourne HS, 2014
5-foot-9, 155-pound middle infield prospect with small, athletic build. Projects as a second base type. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 78 mph. Good hands. Needs to continue improving lateral foot speed. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in a tall open stance. Uses a short stride. Minimal upper half load. Takes level path to the ball.
Jacob Schubert, IF, Cambridge HS, 2014
5-foot-10, 190-pound infield prospect with thick frame. Uses short arm action through ¾ arm slot. Projects as a second base or third base type. Reached top velocity of 68 mph across the infield. Feet tend to be flat. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Uses a short stride with minimal upper half load. Takes uphill path to the ball. Shows pull tendencies in his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 70 mph. Ran a 4.96 out of the box.
Jacob Wagner, RHP/OF, Loveland HS, 2014
6-foot, 165-pound prospect with thin, athletic frame. From the outfield, he shows long arm action through high ¾ to over the top arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 85 mph with some carry. Showed good footwork. Needs to quick his transfer. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. Shows some quickness in his bat speed. Line drive production with pull tendencies. Registered top exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 4.67 out of the box. On the mound, he shows arm strength at this stage. Throws through an over the top slot with some quickness. Delivery requires some effort. Fastball was up in the zone at 81-82 mph. Breaking ball didn’t show consistency, but at times flashed 12/6 break at 73-74 mph.
Jarod Yoakam, RHP, Marysville HS, 2014
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed pitcher with long, athletic frame. Committed to the University of Cincinnati shortly after the event. Throws from low ¾ arm slot. Projects as a bullpen arm at the next level. Showed an 85-88 mph fastball with good run. Also used a 72-74 mph slurvy type breaking ball.
Jarret Peters, C, Bloom Carroll HS, 2014
5-foot-11, 190-pound catching prospect with strong, athletic build. From behind the plate, he uses short arm action and a quick, compact transfer. Little wasted movement in his hands or feet. Reached a top velocity of 79 mph from the crouch with accuracy. Pop times between 2.00 to 2.03. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in a tall stance. A little stiff. Uses a short stride. Takes slight uphill path to the plate. Consistent, solid contact. Registered top exit velocity of 87 mph. Ran a 4.58 out of the box.
Luke Langkamp, LHP, Licking Heights HS, 2014
6-foot-2, 225-pound southpaw with big, thick frame. Throws from high ¾ arm slot with short arm action and average arm speed. Delivery shows regular effort. Fastball showed some natural cut at 68-71 mph while breaking ball showed soft 1/7 action at 60 mph.
Mathis Newman, OF/RHP, Upper Arlington HS, 2014
6-foot, 185-pound two-way prospect with athletic build. Defensively, he shows potential from the outfield. Throws with short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 84 mph with accuracy. Will improve as crow hop is enhanced. Corner type guy at this stage. Offensively, he hits from the left side. Uses a balanced, athletic stance. Bars his arm a bit in his load. Good use of his lower half. Showed some quickness in his bat speed. Takes slight uphill path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 83 mph off the bat. Ran a 4.57 out of the box. On the mound, the righty uses a big leg kick. Throws through high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 80-83 mph. Breaking ball showed 11/5 break down in the zone at 66-69 mph. Also used a 66-69 mph changeup.
Matthew Matthaes, C, Olentangy Liberty HS, 2014
6-foot, 170-pound catcher with athletic frame. Uses short arm action. Shows some quickness in his transfer and footwork. Reached a top velocity of 78 mph out of the crouch. Pop times ranged between 2.02 to 2.03. At the plate, he uses a tall setup. Tends to gain ground with his back foot in his swing. Needs to improve load and maintain balance. Takes slight uphill path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 82 mph.
Michael Barnabei, OF/LHP, Pickerington Central HS, 2014
5-foot-10, 145-pound two-way prospect. On the mound, he throws through ¾ arm slot with some quickness in his arm. Delivery requires some effort. Relies on fastball and changeup combo. Good command of 80-81 mph fastball with natural cut down in the zone. Changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed at 68-71 mph with some fade. From the outfield, he shows long arm action with a top velocity of 85 mph. Had carry on his throws. Good athleticism and footwork. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a wide stance. Drops hands in his load. Takes uphill path to the ball. Rotational type swing. Registered top exit velocity of 84 mph. Ran a 4.42.
Mitchell Griffiths, RHP/3B, Olentangy Liberty HS, 2014
6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect with big, physical frame. Shows potential as a two-prospect. On the mound, he sat at 83-85 mph through a high ¾ slot. Threw plenty of strikes and used a quick tempo. Fastball showed good run. Breaking ball showed gradual 11/5 break at 67-69 mph. In the field, he uses short arm action through a ¾ slot. Reached a top velocity of 78 mph across the infield. Needs to keep the feet moving as he gets flat. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance from the right side. Uses a small leg kick. Consistently squared up the baseball with hard line drives. Registered top exit velocity of 87 mph. Ran a 4.94 out of the box.
Ross Henze, OF/3B, New Albany HS, 2014
6-foot-2, 180-pound corner outfield prospect with lanky, athletic frame. Uses long arm action through low ¾ arm slot. Ball tends to have some run. Reached top velocity of 80 mph. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. Takes uphill path to the ball. Shows quickness in his hands. Registered top exit velocity of 90 mph off the tee. Squared the ball up in batting practice session. Ran a 4.5 out of the box.
Sam Ankrom, LHP, Thomas Worthington HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 205-pound left-handed pitcher with solid frame. Throws through high ¾ arm slot. Uses long arm action. Tends to wrap his back arm action. Fastball sat at 81-83 mph while breaking ball was 66-67 mph on this occasion.
Tommy Parsons, RHP, New Albany HS, 2014
6-foot-4, 170-pound right-handed pitcher with long, lanky frame. Throws through ¾ arm slot with a bit of deception. Uses average arm speed and regular effort to his delivery. Fastball sat at an easy 82-84 mph with slight run. Used a 66-68 mph breaking ball with gradual 12/6 action down in the zone. Also used a 74 mph changeup with fade, but needs additional development.
Trent Kaltenbach, C, Jonathan Alder HS, 2014
5-foot-11, 170-pound catching prospect with athletic frame. Uses short arm action through ¾ arm slot, which creates some tailing action to his throws. Reached top velocity of 72 mph from the crouch and pop times between 2.07 to 2.15. Shows some quickness in his hands and feet. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in an athletic stance. Uses a short stride and good use of his lower half. Consistently squared up the baseball. Drove the ball to all fields with some lift. Registered top exit velocity of 86 mph. Ran a 4.56 out of the box.
Tyler Jester, OF, Dublin Coffman HS, 2014
5-foot-9, 165-pound outfield prospect with solid, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Throws uphill. Reached top velocity of 74 mph. At the plate, he starts with slightly open stance. Opposite field production in his swing. Short, level path. Registered top exit velocity of 74 mph. Ran a 4.6 out of the box.
Tyler Magley, RHP, Liberty Union HS, 2014
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed pitcher with small, athletic frame. Throws with average arm speed through high ¾ arm slot. Delivery requires regular effort. Minimal use of his lower half at this stage. Fastball sat 80-82 mph with some run. Breaking ball sat on the same plane at 71-73 mph. Also used a 72 mph changeup.
