Ohio Spotlight Game: D-II District Final - Tallmadge vs Northwest
AKRON – Tallmadge used a big second inning to win the Division II Akron District Final over Northwest 14-4 in five innings. Northwest advanced to the district final by upsetting the top seed Field 8-5 in nine innings. #17 Tallmadge beat Springfield 6-2 in the semis to compete for the district title.
Northwest jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Jared Szekely drove in a pair with a two out double. Uncommitted Junior Jared Burick (no. 78) settled in after the first and did not surrender any runs until the fourth. He threw four innings for the Blue Devils and picked up the win.
Scott Seeker (2017 No. 72) and Sam Seeker (2019 No. 33) both tripled in the same inning for the Blue Devils en route to an eight run second inning. Uncommitted 2018 Zach Boyd (No. 85) also came up big in the second with a two RBI single to right.
Tallmadge would not give their lead back from then on. The Blue Devils scored a run in every inning until the end of the contest. They advance to the Hudson Regional Semifinals and will play #19 NDCL.
Top Performances on the day
+ Zach Boyd (Tallmadge): 2-4 with three RBIs. (℅ 2018)
+ Seth Gergely (Tallmadge): 2-3 with a triple and a bunt single. (℅ 2018)
+ Canyon Foster (CFNW): 1-2 with a single, also HBP. Defensively, he made one of the nicest plays on the day with a sliding backhand in the hole at shortstop. (℅ 2018)
