On February 11th , Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma held its inaugural Preseason All-State Showcase, in Tulsa Oklahoma at the state of the art World Baseball Outreach indoor facility. An invite only roster of 50 players from around the state in the 2018-2020 classes attended the event while college coaches took note.
Player profiles have been updated with profile pictures, stats, and videos. In days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position. Today, we will take an in-depth look at the outfielders. Though many of the players here are two-way players, they will be covered here only as outfielders. S’mauri Abram, Oklahoma Christian Academy (2020)
A 6-foot-1, 168-pound physically advanced, lean, muscular frame with some strength. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, shows some pop to all fields. Hits from an athletic balanced base with slight bend at the waist. Uses a smooth load and short, slightly open stride, creates excellent should and hip separation, some length, quick hand, high finish, 81 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.16 laser-timed 60. Defensively, controlled actions, throws from a low-3/4 slot with arm strength, 81 mph to the dish.
Jace Bohrofen, Westmoore (2020)
A 6-foot-1, 175-pound physically advanced build with some strength. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, all fields, line drive approach with some pop. Hits from an upright, relaxed, balanced set-up, hands have good rhythm in front of his chest. Uses a small load, moderate stride, and shows off very quick hands, flat to contact with a high finish, creates consistent backspin. Easily one of the best rounds of BP on the day, exit velo 84 mph. Runs a 7.30 laser-timed 60. Defensively, clean, confident, and advanced actions. Throws from an over the top slot, some carry, 76 mph, most accurate outfield arm at the event.
Mason Carrier, Edmond North (2018)
A 6-foot, 190-pound proportional frame with strength. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, middle-opposite field approach, doubles trajectory. Hits from an open and upright set-up, knee-knock leg kick, long stride, short to contact, good extension, uphill path. Consistently on time and repeatedly found barrel hammering balls to the opposite field gap, 97 mph exit velo. Easily one of the best rounds of the day. Runs a 6.91 laser timed 60. Defensively, controlled actions, average hands, active feet, throws from a high-3/4 slot with some carry, 82 mph, some accuracy.
Cole Embrey, Mustang (2018)
A 5-foot-11, 150-pound slender frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, all fields, line drive approach. Hits from an upright, very relaxed set-up, uses a hanging leg kick for timing, short to contact, loose hands, on time, high finish. Has a knack for finding the barrel, 80 mph exit velo. Runs a 6.97 laser-timed 60. Defensively, athletic, aggressive, and confident actions. Charges the ball well with good hands. Throws from a high-3/4 slot with some accuracy, 75 mph, some accuracy.
Cesar Escobar, Santa Fe South (2018)
A 6-foot-1, 143-pound frame with room to add size and strength. Offensively, a right handed hitter, middle of the field approach, some lift. Hits from an open stance with a crouch, long stride, hands stay lat and low through finish, 83 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.49 laser-timed 60. Defensively, attacks the ball well, average hands, throws form a low-3/4 slot, lots of tail, 71 mph.
Hunter Freese, Deer Creek (2018)
A 6-foot-1, 185-pound broad shouldered, athletic, strong frame. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, opposite field approach with some pop. Hits from a balanced, open, athletic stance with high hands. Uses a smooth load with a small stride, downward angle of attack, front foot hitter. Found mostly barrels, 88 mph exit velo. Runs a 6.80 laser-timed 60. Defensively, active feet, good hands, throws from an over the top slot, some tail, 81 mph to the dish.
Donovan Gaines, Southmoore (2019)
A 5-foot-11, 195-pound athletic, muscular, and strong build. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, line drive, opposite field approach. Hits from an open, relaxed, and upright stance. Coils his front side for the load, shows quick strong hands, some stiffness, some length.Tied up at times on the inside pitch. Produces and exit velo of 85 mph. Runs a 7.06 laser-timed 60. Defensively, aggressive to the ball, active feet, violent throwing motion, high-3/4 slot, 80 mph to the dish.
Zac Green, McLoud (2018)
A 6-foot-1, 170-pound lean build with some length. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle of the field, line drive approach. Hits from a slightly back foot heavy, open set-up. Crouches quickly into his load, short to contact, stays inside the baseball, front foot heavy swing, exit velo of 80 mph. Runs a 7.02 laser-timed 60. Defensively, attacks the ball well, shows consistant hands, stays deep in his legs throughout. Throws from a 3/4 slot, 79 mph with accuracy.
Will Krywicki, Oklahoma Christian Academy (2020)
A 5-foot-7, 135-pound frame. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, flat, middle-opposite field approach. Hits from a front leg heavy set-up, uses a smooth load with rhythm, rotational swing with a high finish, 79 mph exit velocity. An elite runner for his age, Krywicki posted a smooth 6.72 laser-timed 60. Defensively, charges the ball exceptionally well, aggressive and confident actions, clean footwork, soft hands. Throws from a 3/4 slot with accuracy, 73 mph.
Patrick Murphy, Carl Albert (2019)
A 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame with strength and athleticism. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle-opposite field, mostly flat approach. Hits from an upright, balanced set-up with rhythm in the hands. Uses a smooth load and leg kick for timing, some stiffness in the hands, high and abbreviated finish. Found mostly barrels, 88 mph exit velo. An elite runner for his age, Murphy runs a 6.72 laser-timed 60. Defensively, confident and smooth actions, throws from an over the top slot with carry, 78 mph to the dish.
Jackie Robinson, Deer Creek (2019)
A 5-foot-11, 185-pound thick build with some strength. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, middle-pull approach with some lift, flashed some pop for his age. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance, big, smooth, linear load with an arm-bar, some length in the swing, some bat speed, high finish, 83 mp exit velo. Runs a 7.31 laser-timed 60. Defensively, above average actions all around, exaggerated crow hop. Throws from a high-3/4 slot, 76 mph, consistent tailing action.
Brandon Rutledge, McAlester (2018)
A 5-foot-8, 150-pound athletic frame with quick-twitch actions. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle of the field approach with some lift. Hits from a wide, athletic, still set-up. Uses a small load and small leg kick before launching his extremely quick hands. Short to contact with some extension and a high finish. Produces an exit velo of 88 mph. Runs a 6.82 laser-timed 60. Defensively, smooth and confadent actions, uses a big windup and crow hop, high-3/4 slot, and fast arm to produce an outfield velo of 85 mph.
Hunter Shores, Norman, (2018)
A 5-foot-7, 155-pound lean frame. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, all fields, flat approach. Hits from a balanced and athletic set-up, moderate leg kick and load, handsy swing, found some barrels, 78 mph exit veo. Runs a 7.10 laser-timed 60. Defensively, aggressive actions to the ball, throws from an over the top slot with an extremely quick release, 74 mph.
Baylor Simmons, Bishop Kelley (2018)
A 5-foot-7, 160-pound frame. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, middle-pull approach, mostly flat. Hits from a wide, open stance, short and flat to the ball with good extension, found some barrels, 82 mph exit velo. Runs a smooth 6.82 laser timed 60. Defensively, very aggressive in attacking the baseball, throws from an over the top slot, some tail, 73 mph.
Seth Sims, Woodward (2018)
A 6-foot, 185-pound solid frame with strength. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, opposite field approach with pop. Hits from a narrow, open, and upright set-up. Uses a pronounced hanging leg kick for timing, some length in the swing, fluid throughout. Tied up at times on the inside pitch. Produces an exit velo of 83 mph. Runs a 7.01 laser-timed 60. Defensively, average feet and hands, some athletic actions, throws from a high-3/4 slot, some carry, 72 mph.
Casey Yeager, Chandler (2018)
A 6-foot-2, 170-pound long-limbed, lean, and athletic frame. Runs a very smooth 6.75 laser-timed 60. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle-opposite field approach, mostly flat. Hits from a athletic stance, uses a big, knee-knock leg kick load, front foot heavy swing, inconsistently barreled the ball, exit velo of 86 mph. Defensively, uses methodical actions, fields the ball deep, throws over the top of his front side, 72 mph.
