Zach Jancarski, a 6-foot, 180-pound OF from Chestnut Hill Academy has announced his commitment to the University of Maryland. According to Jancarski, it was a pretty easy decision. "I felt an instant connection with the coaches as well as the players on my visit last weekend. The campus was beautiful and I saw myself in a Terrapin uniform. There was nowhere else I would rather be", he stated.
Jancarski was also considering Coastal Carolina, Louisville, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh and St. Johns. While the distance from home was not the determining factor in his choice, Jancarski related that, "It was definitely a perk to have the Maryland campus about three hours away. My parents are extremely excited about that because now they can come see me play. It's just another reason why Maryland was the right decision."
Jancarski is coming off a stellar performance at the WWBA World Championships earlier this month in Fort Myers, Florida. His play there in front of the Maryland coaching staff led to his visit last weekend.
Jancarski is confident that he will have an opportunity to contribute quickly. He said, "The coaches recruited me to come in and play. They do not over recruit, and they take their time evaluating players before offering them because they expect them to be game ready very quickly."
With two years to prepare for his initial college season, Jancarski has a plan. "My goal is still the same goal it has been since I was four years old; to get drafted and play professional baseball. I also want to help my team win the Inter-AC League Championship. That is an attainable goal and we are going to work real hard to achieve it."
Jancarski's announcement comes on the heels of his summer teammate Colton Hock announcing his commitment to Stanford University. Both players compete in the summer and fall months with the Evoshield Canes M-A 2014 National team. Jancarski is currently the No. 2 ranked player in the Pennsylvania Class of 2014 by Prep Baseball Report, while Hock is ranked No. 4. Both players are also ranked in the top 50 players in their class in the entire eight state Prep Baseball Report coverage area.
