Norcal Underclass Games: 1B/3B Reports

ISLANDERS FIELD - LATHROP, CALIF. - A total of 39 position players were in attendance, nine of whom competed primarily as corner infielders.The event was comprised entirely of 2024/2025 grads, with one reclassified 2026 in attendance.

In addition to the traditional showcase (60 yard run, BP round, defensive workouts), the pitchers competed in live game action where their data was gathered, and each position player had four at-bats during the game they played in.

LISTED IN ORDER OF EXIT VELOCITY MPH DURING THE BP SESSION, 1B's LISTED FIRST

Harry Pelzman, Serra (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 1B
Body: 6-1, 180-pounds. Long body, broad proportions on frame with ample room for future size and strength.
Hit: LHH. Deep in box, tall set-up, off the plate, open stance, relaxed presentation, smooth lift to get loaded over back foot, easy medium depth load while creating separation, gets even in medium length stride. Hands are a strong attribute, works inside with ability to get to extension and drive ball to pull-side with ability to also drive ball to oppo field, maintains quiet head, lower body provides power, chance to develop legitimate extra base power with approach to get to it with consistency.
Power: 89 max exit velocity, 68.2 max bat speed, 22.4 max hand speed.
Arm: LH. INF - 1B 74 mph. 3/4 slot, quick sling flick arm action, gets ball out quickly, loose arm with athleticism as a thrower.
Defense: Soft hands and smooth feet, works bag well, versatility of arm action to get ball out quickly to infielders, big target, confident actions.
Run: 8.09 runner in the 60.

Jacob Moreda, Cardinal Newman (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 1B
Body: 5-9, 155-pounds. Higher waist, fairly broad upper body frame, lean strength in lower body.
Hit: LHH. Balanced, medium depth in box, slightly off plate and very slightly open with front shoulder tucked under chin, medium high lift out to longer stride, deep load when creating separation. Aggressive to and through contact, energy rolls outside front foot at times, best stroke plays to middle and oppo gap, has barrel control, handsy swing with some whippy life.
Power: 83 max exit velocity, 64.6 max bat speed, 22.2 max hand speed.
Arm: RH. INF - 1B 74 mph. Compact easy arm action, accurate thrower, can change arm angles for various throws, there is more raw arm strength coming.
Defense: Soft hands, willing to work below the ball, worked bag well, understands nuances of playing 1st base, footwork is clean, focused defender with sense of urgency, good on backhand plays showing trust in his glove hand.
Run: 8.32 runner in the 60.

Ayden Dringenberg, Oakmont (CA), 2025
Positional Profile: 3B
Body: 5-11, 140-pounds. Long and lean, sizeable and roomy frame for future size and strength gains.
Hit: RHH. Wide feet, slightly closed, balanced, medium reverse knee lift to load over backside, controlled stride slightly closed, elbow flares up a bit before getting connected at contact. Drives top hand through contact, gathers weight on backside and finishes with weight on backside, locks head on the ball, abbreviated two hand finish.
Power: 82 max exit velocity, 58.7 max bat speed, 18.1 max hand speed.
Arm: RH. INF - 3B 78 mph. Loose quick arm, 3/4 release, aggressive thrower, strong arm projects to be well above average.
Defense: Calm measured footwork, soft hands, confident actions, sets up with balance to get throw underway with something on it, clean angles.
Run: 7.69 runner in the 60.

Luke Giusto, Justin-Siena (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 3B
Body: 5-10, 187-pounds. Sturdy broad body type, chance to develop into a powerful physique.
Hit: RHH. Medium depth in box, off the plate, very slightly open in balanced stance, hands off chest mid-body, relaxed elbows with flexion rhythm, deep load during separation, smooth long stride after medium lift.   Some Josh Donaldson type of mechanics present, hips glide forward a bit during longer stride, starts swing from lower slot, transfers weight to front side, handsy stroke with some physicality and intent.
Power: 85 max exit velocity, 60.8 max bat speed, 19.3 max hand speed.
Arm: RH. INF - 3B 75 mph. Compact arm action well-suited for 3B, smooth 3/4 release, gets ball underway well while being able to get to his natural slot when on the move.
Defense: Hands are good, has control of his feet, timing of catch to throw allows for arm to play up, went to backhand confidently, fair range.
Run: 7.45 runner in the 60.

Brandon Kleyman, TBD (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: 3B
Body: 6-1, 160-pounds. Long torso, lean strength, strength well-proportioned throughout.
Hit: LHH. Tall set-up, relaxed in the box, medium width feet, hands off chest with vertical bat, back foot angled toward catcher, minimal lift out to long stride, quiet deep load. Crashes at contact with power, drives back hip through contact, closes stride a bit which creates a lively rotational swing, whips barrel with life, has real power and significant power potential, sweeps upward through contact.
Power: 86 max exit velocity, 72.5 max bat speed, 22.5 max hand speed.
Arm: RH. INF - 3B 74 mph. Long backside, controls arm stroke well, fairly loose arm from 3/4 release, throws stay on line.
Defense: Moves around with confidence, soft hands, focused and consistent pre-pitch footwork set-up, played well on the move, plays a little tall, there is an extra step at times to get throw underway.
Run: 7.28 runner in the 60.

Justin Sechler, Serra (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 3B
Body: 5-11, 175-pounds. Muscular lower body, athletic proportions, sizeable frame for additional size and strength.
Hit: RHH. Tall set-up, slightly open, medium depth in box, slight crouch, hands start fairly high before lowering into medium depth load, quiet smooth stride. Has bat control, extends though contact well which allows power to play to all fields, finishes with authority, loose stroke with life through contact, gets to leverage against front side, quiet head.
Power: 85 max exit velocity, 67 max bat speed, 21.7 max hand speed.
Arm: RH. INF - 3B 73 mph. Longer backside when he had time to set feet, shorter more traditional 3B arm stroke when on the move, 3/4 release.
Defense: Athletic confident defender, smooth feet, has range that plays up with strong anticipation and instincts, confidence in his feet allows hands to play as very sure.
Run: 7.25 runner in the 60.

Ivver Vertulfo, Berean Christian (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 3B
Body: 5-8, 160-pounds. Stout body type on compact frame, strong build.
Hit: RHH. Medium width feet, slight pinch of knees, very slightly open, hitterish, medium knee lift and places foot almost straight back to where it started, hands start high before pulling back into powerful load in lower slot. Has pull-side power which showed up in game action, sweeping stroke upward through contact with aggressive two hand finish, showed barrel control while being able to adjust to multiple pitch locations.
Power: 89 max exit velocity, 70.7 max bat speed, 21.8 max hand speed.
Arm: RH. INF - 3B 73 mph. 3/4 slot, smooth and fairly compact arm action, accurate, repeatable and trustworthy arm action.
Defense: Soft hands, confident feet, gets rid of ball with quick tempo, good body control, fair range, clean mechanics and angles.
Run: 7.26 runner in the 60.

Dominic Alvarado, Redwood  (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 3B/1B
Body: 6-0, 194-pounds. Burly body with muscular gains since last seeing him, powerful build on full frame.
Hit: LHH. Fairly wide feet, starts slightly open, medium depth in box, has presence in the box, loads back hip over back foot, has rhythm, small toe tap out to short stride, small controlled load after pinch of elbows. Works to get behind the ball, handsy swing, front foot with some release of energy, showed ability to sink into legs to get to pitches lower in zone, adjustable swing, has some raw power and ability to drive ball to oppo field.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, 65.2 max bat speed, 20.8 max hand speed.
Arm: RH. INF - 3B 70 mph. Depth on backside of arm stroke with occasional slight stab, high-3/4 release, fair carry, presently profiles best at his secondary of 1B.
Defense: Reads ball well, plays low below ball, fields ball well off his body, gets deep into legs on backhand, gritty defender, fair range and ability to play on the move.
Run: 7.87 runner in the 60.

Jonah Williamson, Sheldon (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 3B/1B
Body: 5-7, 170-pounds. Burly body type, compact build, somewhat high waist.
Hit: RHH. Tall set-up, medium width feet, relaxed and confident looking in the box, small lift out to short stride, medium quiet load, quiet in the box. Handsy stroke, makes quality contact in multiple zones, displayed timing mechanisms of a consistent contact hitter, sprays ball, keeps head quiet, short to it long through it.
Power: 83 max exit velocity, 65.1 max bat speed, 21.3 max hand speed.
Arm: RH. INF - 3B 68 mph. Longer slot for 3B, low release, flicks and slings it, arm profiles best at 2B.
Defense: Soft hands, can react quickly within his range, gritty defender with strong hand-eye coordination.
Run: 8.19 runner in the 60.
