Norcal Player of the Week: Riley Cooper

2020 LHP Riley Cooper of Clovis North HS has been named the Prep Baseball Report Northern California Player of the Week for March 11th - March 17th due after being in strong consideration for the award last week. His outing vs rival Clovis HS earned the nod in a week when we had MANY strong nominations.

On 3/15/19 Cooper threw a complete game as the Broncos defeated 2-0 Clovis in a tightly contested conference game. When two of the stronger programs in the TRAC get together, it is often a low scoring affair and runs are at a premium. In this one Cooper had to stand tall all game and he did just that, making just two runs hold up for the victory.

It wasn't just any complete game either... Cooper struck out 17 and walked only one batter in a dominant performance. He did allow 6 hits against a solid Clovis line-up (four by outstanding senior catcher Darrien Miller). This outing comes on heels of his game on 3/8/19 vs Clovis East HS (another conference game) when he threw a 2-hitter (10 K, 2 BB, and 2-for-2, 2 RBI) to lead North to a 9-0 victory. Add it all up and that's 27 K, 3 BB, 8 H in his last two outings, both shutout wins.

The Arizona commit not only pounds the zone and competes in a way that is really enjoyable to watch, he does it with upper-80s stuff and a hard curveball that he can go to at just about any time. We saw him early in the season vs Redwood HS and got to appreciate the way he gets after it and the energy that his team gets from his mound presence. Clovis North, our #7 ranked team in the Power 25, is having a great season thus far, but it goes to the 'Win Day' level when Cooper takes the mound.

For his performance all week Riley Cooper has been named the Prep Baseball Report Norcal Player of the Week for the week of March 11th - March 17th. We salute Riley's accomplishments and wish him and his team continued success both on-and-off the field.
