PODCAST: Northern CA ProCase

STOCKTON, CA. - The 2019 MLB Draft was completed on June 5th and on June 9th, it was time to turn our attention to the 2020 class at the Northern California ProCase. A select group of players were invited to participate in this exclusive event geared toward draft prospects and high level collegiate talents with future draft potential. Players were put through a pro-style workout with various stats/data recorded during the workouts which can be found HERE.

3B Nick Kresnak (Acalanes)

2020 3B Nick Kresnak (Washington Commit) is listed at 6-foot-1, 200-pounds with a high waist, physical build showing current strength and muscle while also displaying quick actions with agility and athleticism in short bursts. That quick burst action carries over to the way he plays with a power swing and agility to handle the hot corner at the next level. We've seen Kresnak during both the spring season and in summer showcases and his knowledge and feel for the game are very strong matching those intangibles with current tools that have space for some more growth. 

Kresnak's bat is going to be his carrying tool using his physical frame to drive balls deep into gaps with easy power when getting more leverage on the baseball. It's a quick, easy swing staying in the zone a long time keeping a tall, slightly opened stance with good posture; pulls the knob down and back to create space for the hands to drive the barrel through the zone on an upward path (93 EV). He matches strong wrists and hands with hips that help create leverage showing explosive qualities. We've always enjoyed seeing his patient approach at the plate where he waits for his pitch before attacking; when he get's his pitch Kresnak is aggressive looking to do damage. That baseball knowledge also comes into play understanding when to help the team by executing and driving in runs showing the ability to shorten the swing and get the ball into the field. 

At third base, Kresnak has quick, active feet able to move laterally with agility. His hips allow him to take strong angles with the ability to open up, drop step and drive to cut balls off. He's working back to the position after spending time in the OF while older players were in front of him at Acalanes, and you can see him becoming more comfortable as he puts the work in at the position. Kresnak's arm shows easy actions with the ability to make all the throws from the position and able to adjust his angle for throws to second to start the double-play (82 MPH). The arm will continue to improve as he stays at 3B; he's been a very strong pitcher at Acalanes as well.

Kresnak plays with a quiet and calm demeanor allowing his on-the-field actions to stand out while competing and playing hard in every aspect of the game. Match that with his baseball knowledge and a swing that's going to do damage from the middle of the lineup and you see why his profile is so strong. Come June, Kresnak could be making the decision between moving up to the Pacific Northwest to join the Huskies or playing for a MLB team.
