We present the winner for the 2021 NorCal Player of the Week for May 17-22

The season numbers for 2021 C Tanner Sagouspe of San Joaquin Memorial HS are outstanding, as he has been a mainstay in the line-up for state ranked SJM (#9 in our recent Power 25). The Cal Poly commit, who has this season made the transfer to full-time catcher look easy (was an outfielder), has thus far posted this line: .513, 8 HR, 39 RBI, 27 R, 8 2B, 3 3B, 4 BB, 7 K. To do so while also making that transition behind the plate and playing the position at a high level is all the more impressive.

Last week, our Les Lukach made the trip to Fresno to see the Panthers play and was on hand on 5/18 to witness him hit for the cycle vs Madera HS. He was 4-for-5 in the game, with 3 R, 3 RBI. He followed that up on 5/20 with a 2-for-5 game, including another HR (3-R), R, 4 RBI and ended the week by getting the W in relief on 5/21, with 1.2 scoreless IP, 4 K, 0 H, 0 BB... and for good measure he stole a base in that game. What a week! Oh, and he's started this week by going 4-for-4 (3 R, 7 RBI) with a 3 HR game! Perhaps he's on his way to winning the honor two weeks in a row, a theme for this season.

For his outstanding performance last week, we congratulate Tanner Sagouspe of San Joaquin Memorial HS (Fresno) for being named the Prep Baseball Report Northern California Player of the Week for the week of May 17-22.
