CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI - On a beautiful night for baseball in May, No. 1 Eau Claire North edged No. 10 Chippewa Falls 2-1 in a pitchers duel.
The Huskies got the scoring started in the first inning with the help of some defensive miscues by Chippewa Falls. Zac Stang led off the game with a walk, followed by a hit by John Bickle and two errors that led to 2 unearned runs.
In the bottom of the 1st, Chippewa Falls responded by putting up 1 run on 2 hits and walk. The turning point in the game was in the 3rd inning when Chippewa Falls threatened 3 consecutive hits to lead off the inning. It was quickly snuffed out by a shallow fly ball out to where Jalen Williams was waiting and gunned out the runner at the plate for the double play. Tanner Halvorson would then strike out Trevor Olsen to end the inning and the threat.
From then on it was all about the two lefties premiered in the game. Tanner Halvorson and Trevor Olsen put on a collective show that would not disappoint a packed house at Casper Park in Chippewa Falls. Halvorson went 6.1 innings giving up 6 hits 1 run 1 walk and 9 k's. Olsen went 6 innings giving up 3 hits 2 runs (0 earned) with 3 walks and 5 k's.
