New Hampshire Spotlight Game: Souhegan vs Portsmouth
In a match up of two of the top teams in Division 2, Portsmouth defeated Souhegan 16-4 in five innings.Portsmouth improved to 13-2 and Souhegan fell to 12-3.
It appeared that it would be a close game early as Souhegan took a 2-0 lead after two innings. Portsmouth exploded in the third for 10 runs, and that would be too much to overcome for Souhegan.
Top Performers
- Trevor van Allen, P, Portsmouth 2018- pitched four innings, was a little wild at times, but got out of trouble and kept Portsmouth in the game when they fell behind.
- Max Malila, SS, Portsmouth 2018- made some very impressive defensive plays at short to prevent runs from scoring including a diving play up the middle.
- Max Benevides, RF, Souhegan 2017- connected for a long double off the left field wall, showed a strong arm from right field.
Top Prospects
- Alec Burns, 1B/P, Souhegan 2018- Very large, athletic pitcher and first baseman, committed to Fairfield. Sat in low 80s on the mound, fielded his position well. Impressive at the plate, showed big time power from right side.
- Jacob Grassett, 3B, Souhegan 2019- Played third well showing decent arm strength across the diamond, and showed a nice linear swing, which resulted in a double.
- Trevor van Allen, RHP, Portsmouth 2018- Very tall and lengthy (6’6, 185). Fastball was around 80 mph but velocity should improve as he fills out his frame.
- Calvin Hewett, CF, Portsmouth 2020- 6-foot-1 freshman centerfielder, impressive defensively and covers a lot of ground. Bats right handed and throws left handed. 170-pounds, so he can add weight and muscle. Good looking prospect.

- Owen Batchelder, LHP, Souhegan 2017- Ranked #1 in New Hampshire for class of 2017, committed to Northeastern to pitch. Did not play.
