Prep Baseball Report's Nebraska Spring Preview event took place on Monday, February 20, 2017. The event was held at Ultimate Baseball Academy in Omaha, NE. The event featured prospects from the 2017-2020 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple coaches in attendance.
The event featured players from all over the state of Nebraska and a few from Iowa and South Dakota.

Jake Weaver, 2B/C, Millard North, 2019
5-foot-2, 140-pound second baseman/catcher ran a 5.13 40 yard sprint. Smaller compact frame. Open stance, high hand set, flat bat path through zone, dead pull approach, ground ball contact. 71 mph exit velocity. Shows athleticism in field, hands work through the ball. Tops out at 82 mph across the infield. Behind the plate threw in the 2.19-2.43 range. Stabs at pitches, drops to one knee to block.
Ethan Kidder, C, Lincoln Christian, 2020
5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher ran a 5.53 40 yard sprint. Wide square stance at the plate, leg kick trigger, slight uphill swing path, inconsistent contact during round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 64 mph off a tee. Behind the plate threw in the 2.25-2.41 range. Square stance behind the plate, stands up on pitchers, tendency to stab, high target, feet get happy when reaching in and out for pitches. In the outfield, fields the ball out front, high ¾ arm slot that topped out at 75 mph to home.
Chandler Stone, C, Sutton, 2018
5-foot-10, 165-pound catcher ran a 5.75 40 yard sprint. At the plate, toe tap trigger, slight arm bar. Line drive swing plane. Posted an exit velocity of 76 mph off a tee. Behind the plate threw in the 2.47-2.6 range. Slightly open, upright stance, tendency to catch balls inside/outside deep, average lateral movement, funnel blocker.
Nick Kemper, C, Lincoln, 2019
5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher ran a 5.13 40 yard sprint. At the plate, swiveled hands start tempo in swing. Hands stay inside the ball causing him to work away with line drive and ground ball contact. Posted an exit velocity of 81 mph off a tee. Average actions in the outfield, waits back on ball, easy transition to high ¾ arm slot that topped out at 71 mph. Behind the plate threw in the 2.25-2.47 range. Low square target, sways to receive pitches in and out. Target arm has a tendency to lock, ok lateral movement when blocking.
Jackson Bertsch, C/RHP, Elkhorn South, 2019
5-foot-9, 170-pound two-way player ran a 5.44 40 yard sprint. Compact athletic build with present strength. At the plate, square stance, quick compact, slightly uphill swing path. Sprayed line drives to all fields during round of BP. Average actions in the infield, feet tend to get heavy. Short ¾ arm action that topped out at 74 mph across the infield. Behind the plate threw to 2nd in the 2.28-2.46 range. On the mound, topped out at 84 mph. Fastball pounded the strike zone. Breaking ball has good shape, late break with depth. Arm has tendency to slow. Changeup has a fading action to his arm side. Mechanically repeats well, engages lower half well and gets the ball out front. Strong follow over the next couple of years as he continues to develop.
Noah Bruckner, C, Atlantic, 2018
5-foot-7, 175-pound catcher ran a 5.31 40 yard sprint. Slightly open square stance. Slightly uphill swing plane, with hard contact to the pull side. Posted an exit velocity of 77 mph off a tee. Behind the plate threw to 2nd in the 2.12-2.31 range. Slightly open stance, quite movements, receives well, fundamentally sound blocker.
Jaxson Simmerman, C, Seward, 2020
5-foot-9, 175-pound catcher ran a 5.72 40 yard sprint. At the plate, slightly open stance, swivel hands trigger a smooth swing plane. All field approach, solid line drive contact during round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 77 mph off a tee. Behind the plate threw to 2nd in the 2.1-2.18 range. Consistently around the bag. Square stance, low target, good sway & lateral movement, sound blocker, quick movement. Above average receiver for his age.
Jake LaMarre, C, Lincoln Southwest, 2020
5-foot-11, 184-pound right-handed hitting catcher ran a 5.34 40 yard sprint. Slightly crouched, square stance. Leg kick triggers uphill swing plane with a stiff one-handed finish. Middle away approach. Posted and exit velocity of 86 mph off a tee. Average actions in the infield, threw across accurately at 61 mph. Square stance behind the plate, sits high, sways in and out for pitches, tendency to stab, jumps forward to block. Threw to 2nd in the 2.40-2.48 range to 2nd base.
Cullen Ainsworth, C, Elkhorn, 2019
5-foot-9, 185-pound catcher ran a 5.69 40 yard sprint. Slightly tall open stance, good rhythm and timing, knack for getting the barrel to the ball, all fields approach. Solid round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 81 mph off a tee. Threw to 2nd in the 2.18-2.28 range. Fundamentally sound receiver, square stance, funnels deep, sound blocking balls in and out. Quiet movements.
Austin Jisa, C, Lincoln Southeast, 2018
5-foot-11, 185-pound catcher ran a 5.31 40 yard sprint. Square stance at the plate, toe tap triggers line drive long barrel path. Middle approach, ground ball contact during round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 84 mph off a tee. Behind the plate, square stance, good sway, quiet lateral movement, above average blocker, funnels strikes, strong ability to frame pitches outside the zone.
Griffin Everitt, C, Lincoln Southwest, 2018
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher who ran a 5.15 40 yard sprint. Threw to 2nd in the 2.09-2.18 range, consistently around the bag with throws. Square high stance. Low early target. Slight sway to receive, occasional reach and stab at pitches. Slightly open stance at the plate, toe tap trigger, to slight arm bar. Line drive swing plane. Posted an exit velocity of 84 mph off a tee. Solid contact during round of BP. Corner actions in the infield, tendency to field deep in stance, feet get heavy, ¾ arm slot that topped out at 77 mph across.
Jackson Meier, C, Millard West, 2019
6-foot, 195-pound left-handed hitting catcher ran a 5.34 40 yard sprint. Tall square stance at the plate, high hands, slightly uphill barrel path. Occasional hard gap to gap contact. Posted an exit velocity of 84 mph off a tee. Behind the plate, posted pop times of 2.28-2.41 to 2nd base. Slight open stance, funnels strikes well, quiet movements, strong receiver, above average lateral movement, fundamentally sound blocker.
Trevor Toof, C, Lincoln 2018
5-foot-11, 235-pound catcher ran a 5.57 40-yard sprint. Slight open tall stance, quick line drive swing path, pull side approach. Found the barrel many times during round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 82 mph off a tee. Behind the plate, threw to 2nd in the 2.20-2.6 range, sporadic throws to the bag, inconsistent transfers. Tall square stance, tendency to stab, average blocker.
