National Program Invitational: Scout Blog, Day Two
June 11, 2022
Our staff is on the ground at LakePoint for the 2022 National Program Invitational, featuring many of the top prospects spanning prep classes 2023 through 2025. A loaded second day of action in Emerson made for this jam-packed notebook with notes and highlights from NPI, Day Two.
CLASS OF 2022
+ Dylan Reid, RHP, North Springs HS (GA), 2022
Brown commit. Solid, proportionate frame at 5-11 185lbs. Relaxed delivery with easy effort. Short AA with an over-the-top slot. Executed pitches well. Found most success locating his FB glove side, pitch sat 86-89 and touched 90, didn’t need to use too often as he found outs and whiffs with breaker. CB was best pitch, generated tons of s/m. Pitch sat 74-77 with 12/6 shape and 2600-2800 RPM. Big break often froze LHH and tunneled well with his FB before falling off the table for s/m vs RHH. Hitters had a VERY difficult time picking it up. Also flashed a CH. A disciplined ballplayer.
CLASS OF 2023
+ LHP Hunter Dietz, Calvary Christian HS, FL
Dietz, the 44th ranked player in the 2023 class, came in for a short stint in a Top Tier Roos victory. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound southpaw struck out five in two quick innings walking just one, and a highly questionable one at that. Effortlessly finding a high ¾ slot to create a steeper plane, Dietz delivered fastballs at 90-93. There is likely more velo in the tank although Dietz hardly needs it thanks to the swing-and-miss attributes that the pitch already produces. Beyond the easy arm strength, the South Florida recruit also ripped off some sharp, 78-80 sliders that tunneled the slider with later separation including the ability to bury at the back foot of right-handers. Coming off a stellar spring season, Dietz’s initial performance at the NPI was a great way to kick off what could be a coming out party as an elite 2023 MLB Draft prospect.
‘23 LHP Hunter Dietz (FL) was a big riser in the overall rankings, & continues to look the part of a future starter.

Big 6’6” frame that helps create downhill plane at 90-93 (1800-1950) along w/ sharp SL (79-80) that separates late.
