Scouting Report
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
Team Citius Workout
Delgado stands in at 6-foot-2, 220-pounds with a thick athletic frame. Ran a 7.95 – 60, slightly above his previous best recorded time of 7.73. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet shoulder width apart. Back leg is slightly bent with a straight front side and an upright torso. Keeps the bat in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch his trigger is a knee raise to stride forward while his hands move back slightly into a good hitting position. Utilizes aggressive lower body rotation getting his whole frame involved with the swing. Shows quick hands into the hitting zone with good upward lift barrel action throughout into a high one handed finish. Demonstrated good plate coverage and gap to gap power during batting practice rounds with a smooth swing and recorded exit velocity of 91 MPH, which is a 5 MPH improvement from September 2016. Very smooth swing and will be high end prospect at the plate. Defensively- Good footwork getting to the baseball. Fielding mechanics are smooth with his funnel to the chest and transition from glove to throwing hand. Could get the glove out more in front of the body initially, but overall a smooth process with aggressive footwork towards his intended throwing target. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 82 MPH. Pitching- Starts in the middle of the rubber with a smooth side step and a knee raise above the hip crease to his power position. Has a good stride out towards his target with good arm action throughout throwing motion with an efficient follow through. Mechanics are similar while throwing different pitches and hides the ball well throughout the delivery. High 3/4 slot delivery. Fastball velocity was recorded 82-84 MPH with some late life, Curveball was with 12-6 action and depth; cutter was 80-81 with some teeth late. Overall is a top 2019 dual collegiate prospect with high potential at the plate and on the mound.
NY All-Star Games (September 17, 2016)
Delgado stands at 6-foot-1, 208-pounds with a thick strong lower half, corner defender build. Balanced approach at the plate with loose hands, smooth load on the pitch with a high-elbow, leg-lift for timing. Uses lower half to drive hands inside the ball powerfully, path to the ball is short and quick (86 mph exit off a tee with wood) barrel path is slightly uphill creating lift trajectory on contact. Currently displays more bat-strength than bat-speed, but the bat-speed will come as he develops, pull-side line and gap power but also shot some gaps to the right-side. Pitching - From the mound Delgado is an imposing figure for his age and grade. Fastball sat 82-83 mph (week prior up to 87 per reports) from a more over-the-top slot with some body lean towards first-base. Arm-action is clean with some hand-speed, especially on his 71-73 mph changeup. Overall, Delgado is a high-end prospect in the 2019 class that's receiving attention early on in the process.
October 24, 2015
A beast at the plate. Above average bat speed, easy stroke with projectable power. Pro frame on a 2019 grad at 6-foot-1, 208 pounds. On the mound he gets the most out of his thick lower half, running a heavy fastball up to 82 MPH, sitting 80-81. Slider like action on breaking pitch at 67-68 MPH. Feel for change at 71-73.
