Ridgefield, WA - Earlier this summer we ran a Scout Day for NW Star Academy at the brand-new Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex. The following list is all players who attended from the 2020 class who are still uncommitted. NW STar Academy - 2020's

Jack Hanson 3B / 2B / Beaverton, OR / 2020

Strong framed with a sturdy build. Starts upright & balanced in box as he initiates swing with quick forward stride. Barrel gets on plane early, produced consistent line-drive contact throughout BP. Noticeable strength in hands at point of contact. Holds posture thru his finish. Defensively, moves well laterally while feet stay active. Funnels ball in from a wide set up before redirecting towards target. ¾ release with clean arm action. Displayed quality feel/control of glove hand on this look.

Michael McNamee 3B / RHP / Tigard, OR / 2020

Sets-up with narrow, upright stance, slightly open to the pitcher. Short, controlled leg lift as he gets into forward stride & squares up at landing. Hands show some movement as he loads & stay back before beginning swing. Barrel works flat thru the zone & has some whip into contact. Stays low, balanced while funneling the ball in. Feet set up in a wide stance. Maintains a flat back over the ball before getting into throwing motion. Compact arm action with high ¾ release. On the bump, showed feel for 3 pitch mix. Simple, repeatable delivery. Stays balanced at leg lift. Short arm action allows him to be on time with his delivery at landing. Head stays quiet throughout, keeping eyes on target thru release.

Erwin Kim RHP / OF / Central Catholic, OR / 2020

Wide, square stance with slight knee bend. Hands load back into hitting position as he takes a short forward stride. Hips open up first, creating quality separation before barrel gets into the zone. Stays level after contact with long, one-handed finish. Defensively, takes a controlled, deliberate approach to the ball in the OF. Funnels ball in on the outside of his glove-side leg before getting into high exchange. Long, loose arm action from low ¾ slot. On the mound, pitches from a steady, relaxed delivery. Sets up on the far 1st base side of the rubber. Stays tall at leg lift as he gathers over backside. Drop & drive type action on his back leg while maintaining level shoulders. Long, full arm path with ¾ release.

Andrew Dailey 1B / LHP / Portland Christian, OR / 2020

Tall, very narrow stance with lead foot open to the pitcher. Uses short, direct forward stride to square up and get hands into hitting position. Shows a classic, lefty swing with controlled effort & high, smooth finish. Stays tall with leverage at contact. Moved well around the bag at 1B defensively. Balanced actions while moving laterally to field the ball. Stays wide, allows hips to sink when he funnels the ball in. Over the top release with whippy finish on throws. Pitching, filled up the zone with consistent, 2-pitch mix. Quick paced delivery with clean direction towards target. Full arm path after hand break. Stays behind ball & finishes both his offerings with intent.

Jonah Askew OF / RHP / Central Catholic, OR / 2020

Sets up in relaxed, narrow stance in the box. Feet square to pitcher. Low leg lift to load and get into forward stride. Hands show consistent rhythm/movement. Level barrel path thru the zone with low finish after contact. Defensively, kept momentum behind the ball while working thru throws. Clean footwork in the OF. Uses side shuffle with lower half to line up with target. Short, compact arm action with high ¾ release point. While pitching, worked exclusively out of the stretch from far 3rd base side of rubber. Uses abbreviated leg lift to gather weight back. Hands break down center of body. Short, controlled stride into landing. Very short, compact arm action. Allows arm to be on time at landing and create some deception by hiding the ball. Finishes with intent out front at release. Flashed 3 pitch mix with FB/CB/CH.

Garrett Peck C / Madison, OR / 2020

Big bodied athlete with a developed build. Sets up square to pitcher with slight knee bend while maintaining some rhythm with his barrel. Short, quick forward stride as he gets into swing. Flashed best contact to middle of the field. Stays tall & hits against a firm front side. Defensively presents a sizable target behind the dish. Arm action is loose/whippy thru release, creating consistent carry on ball flight. Solid job blocking with his lead leg on throws & allowing backside to work thru the ball.

Jackson Ray C / OF / Central Catholic, OR / 2020

Sturdy build with strength throughout frame. Shows a quick, compact swing. Hands stay tight to the body. Short levers allow him to consistently keep barrel inside of the ball. Stays balanced thru contact. Gap to gap power type of approach. Receives with a low center of gravity, allows hips to work underneath the ball. Quick exchange into short, bent arm action. Showed an accurate arm on this look & kept everything around the bag with a 2.18 - 2.26 pop.

Lucas Underwood OF / C / Tigard, OR / 2020

Switch hitting OF’er with balanced, controlled actions from both sides of the box. Uses a simple, upright set-up with a fluid, subtle hand load. Feet square to the pitcher. Showed a flat barrel path with uphill finish after contact. Defensively, throws from a high ¾ release producing consistent carry and true ball flight. Stays under control when approaching the ball. Aligns feet/glove side with target as he gets into throwing motion.
