As the 2017 MLB Draft approaches, we took the time to check in on some of last year's draft picks out of NJ. New Jersey had a record 12 high school players selected in the 2016 draft, including the 12th overall selection, LHP Jason Groome.

As the college regular seasons come to a close, two of New Jersey's top performers from a year ago were honored with regular season accolades. Old Dominion LHP John Wilson (North Hunterdon HS, NJ) was selected to the Conference USA All-Freshman team. Wilson is 6-1 with a 3.41 ERA. He has thrown 58.1 innings, allowed 45 hits, and has struck out 35. Opponents are batting just .213 against him so far. The North Hunterdon product was selected by the Reds in the 38th Round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

North Carolina's RHP Luca Dalatri (Christian Brothers Academy HS, NJ) was name 3rd Team All-ACC on top of being named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Dalatri is 6-3 with a 3.35 ERA. He has thrown 86 innings, allowed 79 hits, and has struck out 74. Opponents are batting just .245 against him. Earlier this season, Dalatri threw 8 scoreless innings, striking out 15 batters against Radford, the most strikes outs by a starting pitcher since current Mets starter Matt Harvey did it in 2010. Dalatri and the Tar Heels are currently ranked No. 2 in the country by D1Baseball.com with a record of 44-11. Dalatri was selected in the 40th Round by the Rockies in the 2016 MLB Draft.
