Scouting Report
2017 Super 60- Wichita State recruit. 6-foot-4, 207-pound left-handed hitting corner infielder and right-handed pitcher, athletic build with physicality, still plenty of room for continued physical development; overall high level of projection in the frame. One of the few prospects who performed as a two-way player at the Super 60. Although he’s known primarily as a position player, Kocis turned some heads with his showing on the mound. Despite pitching with a sprained ankle we later learned, Kocis ran his fastball up to 93 mph, sitting 90-92 from a high-¾ slot with a long draw on the backside. Secondary stuff is still a work in progress, though he flashed a few sliders in the 78-82 range that showed the potential of being a swing-and-miss offering. Also threw a 69-70 curveball and an erratic 73-76 mph changeup. Still relatively new to the mound, Kocis showed highly intriguing upside and could very well develop into a premium closer type. As a position player, he flashed power potential from the left side. Simple, quiet approach, athleticism in the hands, comes from a steep angle, uphill path, inconsistent results. Registered 93 mph exit velocity and ran a 7.15 laser-timed 60. Defensively, was clocked at 89 mph across the infield.
