No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 12, Bremen 2
Lincoln-Way North (18-0) hit two home runs and went on to smash Bremen 12-2 on Saturday. Senior C Ryan Pellack and St. Joseph’s College-bound SS Josh Handzik went deep for the Phoenix. It was Pellack’s second round-tripper of 2013 and Handzik’s first. Pellack had three hits and is now hitting .512 with two homers and 20 RBI.

No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 5, Oak Forest 1
Lincoln-Way North (19-0; 7-0 SWSC-Red) won the SCC-SWSC Challenge game at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood on Saturday. Phoenix super-soph LHP Kyle Ostrowski improved to 5-0 on the mound allowing a run and five hits, in his six stellar innings of work. Handzik was 2-for-2 with a double and drove home two Griffin runs. Reed Hero had two hits and two hits and an RBI while Josh Reid doubled and plated two Phoenix runs.

No. 2 Mundelein 11, Kenosha Bradford 1
Mundelein improves to 18-1 with the win over Bradford.

Catholic Blue

No. 3 St. Rita 3, Providence 2
St. Rita (22-2; 10-0)

No. 5 St. Laurence 7, Mount Carmel 4
St. Laurence (16-5; 9-1) scored five times in the first inning and went on defeat the Caravan at Viking Field on Saturday. Junior Roger Wilson hammered a two-run bomb for the Vikings. Senior Zach Lewis added two singles and two RBI while Austin Peay-recruit junior TJ Marik chipped in with a single and an RBI. Lewis (3-3) fired a six-hitter at the Caravan with seven strikeouts

Mount Carmel (19-4; 9-1) was led by sophomores, leadoffman Ako Thomas and Josh Stowers, who both doubled and had an RBI.

Brother Rice 10, Loyola 3
Brother Rice (13-8; 6-4) swept away Loyola on Saturday behind junior Kevin Biondic, who had two doubles a single and drove home three Crusader runs. Junior LHP Brian Musielak went the distance to improve to 5-1 and added two singles and two RBI. Senior Wendall Ferguson chipped in with two hits and a ribbie for the Crusaders.

Nonconference

No.15 Plainfield South 10, Yorkville 5
Plainfield South (13-3; 8-1 SWPC) rolled past Yorkville behind Cougar leadoffman Jermaine Terry. Terry had a bomb, two singles scored, three runs and drove home four to lead the PS attack. 

No. 16 Lincoln-Way East 5, Plainfield Central 1
Lincoln-Way East (15-2; 5-1 SWSC-Blue) defeated the Wildcats on Saturday behind a pair of homers from Ryan Weitendorf and Brandon Nathan. Evan Sandman continued to light-up opposing pitchers with two more hits and an RBI. RHP CJ August fired four scoreless innings to pick up the win and Jeremy Gucfa allowed one unearned in his solid three innings of relief to nail down the save.

No. 25 Lockport 10 Oak Lawn 0
Lockport (13-6; 4-3 SWSC-Blue) blanked Oak Lawn in five innings in the South Suburban Conference-Southwest Suburban Conference Challenge at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood. Porter RHP Mike Formella fired a five-inning one hit shutout at the Spartans. Formella struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Dan Sullivan and Mike Coladiepietro both were 2-for-2 for the Porters and Purdue-bound Ted Snidanko plated a pair for LP. 

Plainfield North 3, No. 11 Joliet West 0
Plainfield North (8-6) shocked No. 11 Joliet West (12-6; 4-3 SWSC-Blue) on Saturday. Sophomore Kyle Strepik and junior Robbie Gesbocker combined for a two-hit shutout of the 11th-ranked Tigers.

DuPage Valley

No. 8 Naperville Central 8, Glenbard North 1
Naperville Central (13-4; 8-2) hammered DVC leader Glenbard North (11-6; 9-2) for the second straight day on Saturday. Butler-bound LHP Jeff Schank allowed one unearned run and three hits while striking out six to pick up the win. Brendan Daley hammered a three-run bomb to lead the Redhawk attack. Creighton-bound SS Nick Lopez singled, doubled, scored two runs and plated two runs for NC. Schank had a two-hit day at the plate as well.  

No. 12 Wheaton North 11, West Aurora 0
Wheaton North (15-3; 8-2) avenged Friday’s loss to the Blackhawks, crushing West Aurora in six innings on Saturday. Lake Bacher assault on the baseball continued as Bacher singled homered scored three runs and drove home five. Wheaton College-bound John Peltz had three hits including a double and plated a Falcon run. Mike Mannix chipped in with two singles and an RBL Falcon LHP Sam Nafzinger fired a two-hit shutout at the Blackhawks. 

Wheaton Warrenville South 2, West Chicago 1
Wheaton Warrenville South (12-7; 7-3) stayed in the DVC race with a thrilling 2-1 win over WEGO on Saturday. Eric Giltz singled, doubled and drove home a run for WWS. RHP Rich O’Neil allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings of quality work to get the win. LHP Baylor Holmes nailed down the save by retiring the last two Wildcat hitters he faced, striking out the last hitter to end the game.

Big 12

Bloomington 4-12, Danville 0-8
Bloomington (17-6, 6-0) won for the 10th and 11th consecutive times, blanking Danville in the conference opener and outslugging the Vikings in the nonconference nightcap. In game one, Purple Raider super-soph Charlie Cerny (5-0) fired a one-hit shutout at the Vikings. Southern Mississippi-bound C Chuckie Robinson had the only hit for Danville (7-9; 3-4). in game two, Purple Raider sophomore Patrick Workman (3-2) picked up the win on the mound. Seniors Brandon Edwards and Kent Frantz led the 16-hit Purple Raider attack. Edwards was 4-for-4 and Frantz had three hits and two RBI. Jacob Scogin chipped in with a homered doubled and plated three Bloomington runs.

No. 7 Normal West 12, Champaign Centennial 1
Normal West (16-3; 4-0) crushed Champaign Centennial (13-8; 4-3) on Saturday. Wildcat senior RHP Nick Hieb (7-0) fired a four-hitter at the Chargers with four strikeouts. The Charger run was unearned.

Junior Ryan Frye singled went deep and drove home three Wildcat runs. Matthew James (Illinois) and C Adam McGinnis (Western Illinois), each plated a pair of runs for West. James had three hits while the future Leatherneck had a pair. Senior Jacob Evans singled doubled and drove home three for the rampaging Wildcats, who won for the 10th consecutive game.

Catholic White

De La Salle 8, St. Ignatius 1
De La Salle (12-8; 8-4) smashed St. Ignatius behind UIC-bound RHP Ricardo Ramirez (2-4) and senior RF Trevino Rodriguez, who led the Meteor attack with two hits and two RBI.

St Joseph 12, Fenwick 4
St. Joseph (9-7; 7-5) was led by Charger leadoffman Sean Holas, who was 2-for-2 with three runs scored two doubles and two RBI. Joe DeLuna had a single and three RBI while Trayvon Johnson continued his hot hitting with two hits and an RBI. Mike Pagliuco chipped in with a double and two RBI. RHP Pat Brown allowed four runs in six innings to pick up the win.

Central Suburban Crossovers

Glenbrook North 8, Evanston 2
Glenbrook North (14-5; 6-1 North) blasted Evanston behind Spartan starting and winning pitcher Jake

DeRousse went the distance, fanning 13 Wildkit hitters. Senior Sing Fong led the Spartan attack with two hits and three RBI.

No. 16 Glenbrook South 3, Maine West 1
Glenbrook South (14-2; 6-1 South) slipped past Maine West behind a three-hit masterpiece from Tommy O’ Hara. The Titan RHP struck out seven and helped himself at the plate with a double and an RBI. Kyle Pauly singled and picked up the other Titan RBI.

Maine South 10, Maine East 0
Maine South (10-5; 4-2) was led by senior Zach Jones, who had two singles a double and drove home four Hawk runs. RHP Gehrig Parker (1-0) fired a five-inning shutout and helped himself with two hits and two RBI. 

Deerfield 2, New Trier 1
Deerfield (11-5; 4-2 North) won in walk-off fashion in Deerfield on Saturday. Xander Horwitz hit a walk-off bomb that the sent the Deerfield fans dancing into Waukegan Road. Warrior David Silverberg fired a five-hitter at New Trier (8-8-1; 4-3 South). 

East Suburban Catholic

No. 23 Carmel 3-8, No. 18 Nazareth 1-6
Carmel (12-2; 5-1) swept away the 18th-ranked Roadrunners in La Grange Park on Saturday. In game one, the Corsairs plated a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to win this thriller. Senior Dalton Wright fired a two-hitter at the Roadrunners. The Roadrunner run was unearned. Senior Brent Millazo led the Corsair offense with a double and two RBI. In game two, Millazo had a double and two RBI, to once again lead the Corsair attack Senior Nico Caracciolo doubled and had two RBI for Carmel. Senior Duncan Amrein allowed one run in his three innings of relief top pick up the game two win.

Joliet Catholic Academy 9-8, St. Patrick 4-0
Joliet Catholic Academy (11-7; 4-2) swept away St. Pat’s to get back in the ESCC race.

Benet Academy 3-4, Marist 1-5

Fox Valley Valley

Jacobs 2, No. 22 Cary-Grove 1
Jacobs (14-5; 6-3) rebounded from yesterday’s one-run loss to C-G (13-5; 8-3), to win a 2-1 thriller on Saturday. The Golden Eagles were led by senior RHP Nick Ledinsky (4-1), who fired a five-hitter at the Trojans. Golden Eagle 1B Ben Murray had a double and an RBI while Joe Rizzuto singled and plated the other Jacobs run.

No. 9 Huntley 12, Dundee-Crown 1
Huntley (16-2; 9-2) destroyed D-C on Saturday. Junior Tommy Kiriakopoulos led the Red Raider onslaught with two bombs a double and five RBI. 

McHenry 6, Crystal Lake South 5
McHenry (15-6; 9-2) won for the seventh consecutive time, slipping past Crystal Lake South (11-3; 8-3). Junior Payton Lykins had two singles and two RBI to lead the Warrior attack. Senior LHP Devon Gehrke went the distance allowing five runs and nine hits to pick up the win as McHenry pulls into a first-place tie with No. 9 Huntley.

West Suburban Gold

No. 20 Downers Grove South 15-15, Proviso East 0-0
Downers Grove South (18-3; 13-1) destroyed Proviso East in a pair of mercy-rule contests.

Hinsdale South 2-6, Morton West 0-0
Hinsdale South (12-5; 9-2) won the opener behind senior RHP Mike Rizzo (5-1), who fired a five-hit shutout at the Mustangs.

West Suburban Silver

No. 19 Downers Grove North 8-8, Glenbard West 1-0
Downers Grove North (15-3; 10-1) swept away Glenbard west to stay atop the WSC-Silver standings. Mike O’ Mallley and Troy Southard had complete-game victories on the mound for the Trojans. SIU-bound Connor Kopach and James Sheldon both had a pair of hits and RBI to lead the Trojan attack. In game Ray Greco singled doubled tripled and had three RBI to lead the Trojans. Matt Zabloudil added two hits and two RBI.

Lyons Township 7-3, Oak Park 4-1
Lyons Township (12-5; 8-3) swept away Oak Park in Western Springs on Saturday behind senior LHP Alex Vannucci and University of Michigan-bound RHP Keith Lehmann (5-0).

Hinsdale Central 17-1, York 1-2
Hinsdale Central (11-5; 7-4)

Interstate 8 South

Herscher 4, Peotone 2
Herscher (15-2-2; 6-0-1) won the I8-South contest behind Chase Boydston’s two singles and two RBI. Blake Patchett allowed a run in his four quality innings of relief to pick up the win and Tiger ace Jimmy Brandt pitched a scoreless seventh to nail down the save.

Manteno (14-3; 5-3) defeated Illinois Lutheran 7-2 in a nonconference game on Saturday.

Interstate 8 Crossovers

Lisle 8, Wilmington 5
Lisle (10-6-1; 7-2-1 North) stayed atop the I-8 North with the crossover win over Wilmington on Saturday. Lion 2B Cliff Krause homered doubled and drove home three runs for Lisle. Ryan Van Volkenburg singled doubled scored two runs and plated another for the Lions. Adam Greco chipped in with two singles and an RBI.

Westmont (15-4; 6-2 North) destroyed Noble Street Charter in a nonconference double-header 14-4 and 9-2 on Saturday. 

Metro Suburban

Riverside-Brookfield 7-6, Ridgewood 6-1
Riverside-Brookfield (19-1-1; 9-0) swept away Ridgewood to remain atop the MSC standings. Junior Junior RHP Will Kincanon (6-0) went the distance with nine strikeouts in game one. In game two, senior RHP Kevin Garvey improved to 4-0 with a solid six-inning performance allowing one run with three strikeouts.   

Nonconference

Glenbard South 7, Oswego East 5
Glenbard South (12-3; 8-1 Metro) won the nonconference game on Saturday over the Wolves. The Raiders will begin a huge MSC three-game series on Tuesday with Riverside-Brookfield in Riverside at 4:30

Mid-Illini

Bartonville Limestone 6, Canton 3
Limestone (15-4; 8-0) stayed kept pace with Metamora (18-4; 8-0) atop the M-I8 standings. Chase Schooley had a single and a pair of RBI to lead the Rocket attack. LHP Dylan Weaver (3-1) allowed two unearned runs and three hits to pick up the win.

North Suburban Prairie

Wauconda 5, Vernon Hills 1
Wauconda (8-4; 6-0) stayed unbeaten in the NSC-Prairie defeating Vernon Hills on Saturday. Luke Kenny had a single and two RBI while Bulldog LHP Jeff Lindberg fired a five-hitter at the Cougars to pick up the win.

Nonconference

Grant 15, Prairie Ridge 14
Grant (12-5) outslugged Prairie Ridge on Saturday behind the booming bat of Bulldog Ryan Noda. Noda hit three solo-shots to lead the Grant attack. Jordan Villarreal had two singles a double and drove home a pair of Bulldog runs. Tyler Gorski chipped in with two sac-flies for his two ribbies. Jacob Trumpis improved to 3-2 with the win on the mound for Grant. On Monday Grant will travel to NSC-Prairie leader Wauconda at 4:30

Suburban Christian Blue

Aurora Christian 2-2, Marian Central Catholic 0-7
Aurora Christian (8-10; 3-7) split a twin-bill with MCC on Saturday. In game one Eagle ace JT Baksha (Iowa) fired a three-hit shutout at the Hurricanes with 13 punch-outs. The future Iowa Hawkeye improved to 3-2 with the win and now has 62 punch-outs in 32 IP. 

Upstate 8 River

St. Charles East 5-4, Geneva 0-5

Upstate 8 Valley

Lake Park 5-5, Metea Valley 4-4
Lake Park (16-4; 12-3) moved into the penthouse in the U8C-Valley Division with a pair of impressive one-run victories over Metea Valley. In game one senior Tom Spear led the Lancer attack with two hits and an RBI as the Lancers won it in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the eighth. On the mound senior RHP Eric Vatch picked up the win to improve to 4-0. In game two, the Lancers won again walk-off fashion in regulation behind seniors Eric Vatch, Christian Taugner and junior Anthony Gallina. All three Lancers had two hits and an RBI for LP. Junior LHP Steve Joyce (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for LP.

South Elgin 7-2, Bartlett 5-1
South Elgin (9-7; 9-5) swept past U8C-Valley leader Bartlett on Saturday. In game one junior RHP Tyler Brown fired a seven-hitter at the Hawks with 10 strikeouts. Senior Nick Binder plated a Storm run with a sac-fly and senior David Palmer added a single and an RBI. In game two the Storm was led by seniors Nick Binder and Ty Thorson. Binder was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Thorson added a pair of hits and a pair of Storm RBI. Bartlett falls to 11-4 overall and 10-3 in the Valley.

Neuqua Valley 11-12, East Aurora 0-1
Neuqua Valley (13-7; 10-4) crushed East Aurora in a pair of five-inning contests to leap back into the U8C-Valley race.

Western Big 6

No. 4 Rock Island Alleman 5-6, Galesburg 1-12
Rock Island (17-1; 7-1) and Galesburg (18-6; 6-2) split the huge WB6 twin-bill at Alleman on Saturday.

In game one University of Illinois-bound Cody Sedlock (5-0) fired a one-hitter at the Silver Streaks. Sedlock was lights-out firing 5 2/3 innings of hitless baseball before giving up as single to Galesburg SS Tanner Laird. Dan Cutkomp and Connor Whan hit solo-shots and John Tracey had a clutch two-out two RBI single in the first inning.

In game two Galesburg sophomore Payton Issacson (6-0) outdueled Alleman LHP Tanner Ledezma (4-1).  Laird led the Streaks with three hits, including a bomb and drove in four runs.

Barrington 8, Machesney Park Harlem 0

Aurora Central Catholic 11-11, Northtown Prep 1-1
Aurora Central Catholic (19-3) swept a doubleheader from Northtown on Saturday. Phil Schuetz and Andy Czerak

Elk Grove 6, No. 23 Libertyville 2
Elk Grove (13-5; 5-1 MSL-E) hit Libertyville with a five-run third and cruised to a big nonconference win over Libertyville (13-4-1; 2-1 NSC-Lake). Grenadier RHP Jake Andrews allowed a run and three hits to improve to 2-1 on the mound for EG. Mickey Maize had a double and two RBI while Nick Zak chipped in with a single a run scored and a RBI for the Grens
