Mid-Eastern Missouri Open: Infielders Analysis

On July 18, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Mid-Eastern Missouri Open Showcase at Ronsick Field in Washington, Missouri.  Over 30 players on the 2021-2018 classes attended. 

We will break down the event position-by-position, taking a look at the infielders today.  Player profiles have been updated with video, running times, throwing velocities and profile picture.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

INFIELDERS

Drew Baughman SS / Christian Brothers College, MO / 2021

Baughman is a 5-foot-8 130-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.78 60 and a 4.89 home to first.  He has a 74 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load into back side, controlled leg lift, minimal hand load, short to contact, middle to pull side contact during hitting evals. On the infield, 69 mph positional velocity, three quarters release, quick catch and throw, smooth actions, athletic feet to the ball, projectable frame with loose arm action, mostly accurate throws.

Cole Christman C / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2019

Christman is an athletic 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.07 60 and a 4.89 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with a wide stance, short stride, quick hands, level path through the zone, simple and repeatable, solid consistent contact to the middle and pull side of the field. On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fields ball in athletic position, feet create momentum through the catch, accurate throws, with carry, quick transfer, soft hands.

Nolan Dempsay 1B / Kirksville , MO / 2018

Dempsey is a 6-foot-5 235 point right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.72 60 and a 4.70 home to first.  He has a 90 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, no wasted movement during load, smooth rhythm, flat bat path, quick bat speed, gap-to-gap line drives, power to pull side, body stays under control.  On the infield, 81 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, quick feet with momentum after the catch, arm works, soft hands, fluid hand to glove transfer on time with footwork.

Austin Frye 3B / Sullivan, MO / 2019

Frye is a 5-foot-9 155-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.47 60 and a 4.84 home to first.  He has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts open with feet, toe tap with hands loading, level path though the zone, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, active and quick feet to the ball, momentum after the catch, soft hands, clean transfer, accurate throws, most with carry.

Joel Hagemeier SS / Holt , MO / 2019

Hagemeier is a 5-foot-8 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.56 60 and a 4.69 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin and open set up in base, hands walk away from stride, early in line stride, loose whip in hands, level  bat path, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, short over the top release, quick Catch and throw, hands and feet in sync, works behind the ball and through the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Spencer Hunter OF / St. Francis Borgia, MO / 2019

Hunter is a 5-foot-11 200-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.63 60 and a 5.12 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 75 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, rhythm in hands, quick leg kick, in line stride, aggressive swing, gap to gap approach, flashing pull side power, level path through the hitting zone, high finish in hands. On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, field ball out front, works reverse pivot to throw to second base, fluid footwork, clean transfer, soft hands, three quarters arm slot.

Garrett Juergens RHP / Sullivan , MO / 2019

Juergens is a 5-foot-9 147-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.52 60 and a 4.61 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin set up in stance, inline stride, quick bat speed, level thought he zone, mostly line drives to middle and pull side of the field during batting practice.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, fluid actions, field the ball out front, quick transfer, replaces feet, mostly accurate throws, soft hands.

Brian Cole Krieger 2B / Lafayette, MO / 2020

Krieger is a 6-foot 155-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.45 60 and a 4.50 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, toe tap, short in line stride, controlled rhythm and swing tempo, loose hands, hands control the bat, works inside the ball, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid actions fielding ball in athletic position, clean transfer with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws. 

Kayden Lewis OF / Hickman, MO / 2018

Lewis is a 6-foot 185-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.46 60 and 4.81 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 82 mph. At the plate, starts in a tall and thin set up, minimal load, slight lift in bat path, body stays under control, quick bat speed, mostly pull side contact during batting practice. On the infield, 71 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, clean transfer works with feet to create momentum, mostly accurate throws.

JT Mabry SS / DeSmet , MO / 2018

Mabry is a 5-foot-11 150-pound switch-hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.25 60 and a 4.55 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, similar from both side, balanced stance, fluid pre-swing rhythm in hands, short stride, no wasted movement, short to contact, level through the zone, hands work inside the ball, middle of the field contact.  On the infield, 81 mph positional velo, athletic action, fluid through the ball with momentum from feet, hands and feet work together, quick catch and throw, over the top release, arm works, throws have carry, accurate.

Charlie Schark C / Homeschool, MO / 2019

Schark is a strong bodied 5-foot-11 190-pound right-handed hitting infielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 8.01 60 and a 5.21 home to first.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load to back side, body stays under control, swing produced pull and middle of the field line drives, high finish in hands. On the infield, 71 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release, clean glove to hand transfer, fluid footwork, made all plays cleanly, mostly accurate throws.

Grant Stephens SS / Fort Zumwalt South, MO / 2019

Stephens is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.95 60 and a 5.29 home to first.  He has a 78 mph positional velo. At the plate, balanced stance, short in line stride, repeatable, level bat path through the zone to extension, gap to gap line drives, flashed pull side power.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, fluid actions with clean transfer, made all plays cleanly, mostly accurate throws, momentum after the catch, works behind the ball.

Riley Stephens 1B / Fort Zumwalt South, MO / 2019

Stephens is a 6-foot-3 230-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 8.14 60 and a 5.17 home to first.  He has a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, controlled load against back leg, no wasted movement, loose hands, level path, quick bat speed, pull side power, middle to pull side line drives during batting practice.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, fields ball out front, fluid footwork to the ball, clean transfer.

Camron Swaringen RHP / Wright City, MO / 2019

Swaringen is a 6-foot-1 240-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 8.39 60 and a 5.40 home to first.  He has a 75 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, short stride, pre-swing rhythm in hands, bat path has slight lift, swing produced mostly pull side contact, loose hands.  On the infield, 66 mph positional velo, over the top release, soft hands, clean exchange with fluid footwork.

Alexander Vogt 1B / Warrenton , MO / 2018

Vogt is a 6-foot- 275-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 8.21 60 and a 5.05 home to first.  He has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, short stride, no wasted movement on back side, aggressive bat speed, loose hands, level bat path, repeats, middle of the field approach.  On the infield,  70 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, works reverse pivot to throw to second base, quick transfer with fluid footwork mostly accurate.
