Michigan Spotlight Game: Portland vs East Rapids - Doubleheader
Portland hosted Eaton Rapids in a CAAC White doubleheader and both teams left with a win, as Eaton Rapids won game one 6-4 and Portland won the nightcap, 10-3.
In game one, Eaton Rapids jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring two in the first before adding another in the third. 2018 Lewis Beals doubled and scored in the first inning and then drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly in the third.
Portland countered with a run in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at three. 2018 Austin Allison drove in all three runs for Portland, hitting a sacrifice fly in the third and a two run single in the fifth.
The game stayed tied until the top of the seventh when 2017 Drew Shafer broke the deadlock with a two-run home run. Beals also hit a double and scored in the inning, as Eaton Rapids held on for the 6-4 win.
In game two, Portland scored seven runs in the first two innings of game two and cruised to a 10-3 win to split the doubleheader.
2017 Haydin Brandt got Portland on the board quickly with a solo home run to leadoff the first inning. Allison added a two RBI single and 2018 Gavin Thelen hit a two run home run in the second as Portland led 7-2 after two innings.
Allison picked up the win on the mound, striking out 11 in six innings of work and belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to complete the scoring for Portland.
