Michigan Spotlight Game: Diamond Classic - Holt vs St. John's
Holt took on St. Johns Thursday in the Diamond Classic and came away with a 6-2 win in an extra inning affair.
2018 Dalton Bahl put Holt up 1-0 in the top of the second, driving in a run with a one out fielders choice.
St. Johns answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead. 2017 Caleb Paksi drove in the first run with a RBI double to center field and 2017 Frankie Posadas put the Redwings ahead with a RBI single up the middle.
2018 Burrell Jones started on the mound for Holt and settled in after giving up the two early runs, allowing just two hits over the next 4.2 innings.
2017 Jesse Heikkinen led off the top of the sixth inning with a double and came around to score on a RBI single by Jones that tied the game up at 2-2.
The score remained tied until the top of the tenth inning when Heikkinen broke the deadlock with a two run double to right center. 2018 Spencer Baldwin and 2017 Dan Clark each added RBI singles in the inning to complete the scoring for Holt.
Heikkinen earned the win in relief, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out four.
With the win, Holt advances to the Diamond Classic semifinals where the Rams will play Grand Ledge on Monday.
