Season Snapshot
Northern (Cal.) looks poised to contend for both the SMAC Conference and MPSSAA 3A South Region Championships in 2019. The Patriots have seen their season end in each of the last three seasons with a loss to county-rival Huntingtown. 2018 All-SMAC 1st Team senior OF and St. John's University commit Marcus Lee-Sang returns as the Patriots leader on offense. He will be joined by fellow seniors Mason Davidson, Nick White, and junior Matt Jarman. On the mound for the Patriots in 2019 are two Prince George's CC commits in seniors Robert Jurney and Grayson Lewis.
It's shaping up to be one of the strongest teams 10th year head coach Bobby Gibbons has had at Northern during his tenure and this year's group of seniors would like nothing other than to knock out Huntingtown in the state playoffs. The Patriots last Regional Championship came back in 2009. If Jurney and Lewis can repeat their strong performances on the mound from a season ago and the Patriots lineup as a whole can find a way to support Lee-Sang's big offensive capabilities; then Northern (Cal.) will have a shot to get over the hump and make this a special season. A potential 3A South Region Sectional Championship preview will commence twice during the regular season as the Patriots and Hurricanes hook-up on April 3rd at Northern and once again on April 29th at Huntingtown.
