2021 Season Snapshot
The 2020 Hagerstown Hawks were primed to make a serious run at the Maryland JUCO Conference and NJCAA Region XX D1 title before Covid-19 ended everyone's season prematurely. Head Coach Scott Jennings and his staff have really done a nice job on the recruiting trail and they return several key players on this year's squad which should translate into another solid season.
The depth and talent on the mound looks to be a significant strength this year with eight guys back headlined by the hard throwing Kam'ron Mays-Hunt (Arkansas State transfer). Righty Will Grove also projects as a key conference starter again this year with Ryan Clark, Ryan Delorbe, Wyatt Freeman, Seth Hartman, Mike Hawbaker, and Josh Kerns providing experienced depth. Brock Smith (Radford) and Steven Ricketts (Fairmont State) will surely be missed from the rotation but without a doubt this staff has the makings of one of the top in the state.
At the plate, look for Andrew Mathias, TJ Kalagher, Dillon Sunnquist, and Corey Waters to lead the way as the top four returners from their lineup in 2020. Freshman catcher Brenden Moshos and freshman infielder Nick Papageorge are both expected to provide and immediate impact in the lineup as well to make up for the loss of 2019 Maryland JUCO All Conference First Team and NJCAA D1 All Region XX First Teamer Josh Menders.
Hagerstown is the only Maryland JUCO program keeping with tradition of opening up the season down south this year. An early trip to Vero Beach, Florida will provide the Hawks with thirteen games in nine days before returning home for four non-conference tune-ups prior to traveling to NJCAA Region XX D1 foe Harford CC for two extremely meaningful games on March 20th. Another winning season in 2021 would make it 20 consecutive for Coach Jennings and the program.
