2021 Season Snapshot
Fifth year head coach Aaron Michael and the College of Southern Maryland Hawks enter the season with certainly more depth than they did at the start of last year. 2019 NJCAA DII All Region XX Honorable Mention shortstop Trevor Drummond, and catcher Peyton Myers are both third year players that will be catalysts in the lineup in 2021. Also returning from last year's lineup are outfielders Preston Long, Jesus Moscat, middle infielder Austin Simms, and third basemen Eli Wilhelm.
On the bump, righties Dylan Bell and Ethan Zorbaugh will anchor a staff that will look to several younger guys to step up and find roles in the rotation throughout the season. Tampa University transfer Francis Segarra, freshman Layne Freese, Michael Guy, and Robby Racey look to add depth positionally in the infield while fellow freshman Justin Aponte and Liam Post figure to see early opportunities in the outfield. Also a part of a solid incoming freshman class are catchers Blake DiPietro and Ryan Huck whom both will add depth behind Myers defensively and look to make an immediate impact at the plate.
Southern Maryland kicks off the 2021 season with an opening weekend double-header at home on March 6th against Potomac State (WV) and will run through six Maryland JUCO Conference opponents to round out the month. Coach Michael hopes that this will be the year the program qualifies for the regional tournament after missing out the last five seasons.
